Told #Yankees, #Mariners are two of five finalists for Cuban free-agent OF Daniel Carbonell. Neither team has confirmed.

Don't know much about this kid. From I have read he is a 22 switch hitting centerfielder who is potentially a 5 tool player. It would be nice to land someone who could make an Abreu or Puig type impact like that.

Either that or we sign him and instead of being like an Abreu or Puig, he turns out to be like a Betancourt.

Sad thing is that I thought the same thing.

Carbonell isn't a finished product like Puig or Abreu. All the reports say developing power, so there's a small chance that he might just be the current version of James Jones that we've seen over the last couple weeks.

Regardless it wouldnt hurt to add an OF with some promise. For whatever reason this organization has a huge deficiency if OF depth.

Ya, I can see that too. But still worth trying since MLB free agents won't sign here unless you pay them for 10 years.

Why would the M's try to sign somebody like this?

Plenty more infielders to convert to outfield. That's the real pro way to address massive deficiencies on both the farm and MLB level.

Other teams are just behind Z's cutting edge approach to rebuilding.

True. Now that Montero is an infielder, he is one step closer to being an OF. I can see him roaming CF any day now.

I would actually watch more, though I watch a lot now, just to see it. It would be the funniest thing on TV.

I can't tell if this is 100% a joke, or not... do they really have Montero playing a position other than DH?
Having only 8 defensive players in the field seems like a poor plan.

He's a 1B now!

And yes, NW was (mostly) joking.

I mean, no way that ever happens.....right?

No he can't be a 1B. I guess he could be a "1B".
Are the infielders just going to run the ball to 1st to get the force outs? Or are the pitchers going to work on inducing flyballs (not to 1st, of course) and strike outs?
