You knew it was going to happen sooner or later. The Caps have just looked awful the last little while and when a team as good as the Caps starts to look like that, it's usually because they've tuned the coach out.

Now we'll have to see if Dale Hunter can get something out of the big guns because Boudreau sure couldn't this year and a lot of the time last year. If he can't then bigger changes might be in order...

I definitely have mixed emotions on this...I'm sad that Bruce is gone for the reasons that some of you have stated. However, and this is no shit...Dale Hunter is who I've wanted to coach this team from the time Hanlon's job was on the ropes. It's not just because of his success with London in the OHL. (BTW, Fastest coach to both 300 and 400 wins in that league) It was and is because he's the epitome of Capitals hockey. He wore his heart on his sleeve every friggin' game and I'm sure he'll convince this group how important the details and work ethic are. Here's wishing Boudreau nothing but the best and a new era in Washington Capitals hockey!!!! I am psyched!!!!

*I'm aware that Boudreau was the fastest modern era coach to 200 NHL wins and I see where that got him.

It is interesting to note that Hunter's success was with "kids" though...you need a much different approach in the pro's, and I think he'll have initial success because the Caps players will just be relieved that there's a change, but the true test will happen come February. That's when we'll start seeing long term changes as a possibility. As a Pens fan I don't like the move...because I just think this makes them more dangerous. There's rarely a case in which a team gets a new coach mid-season, with this talent, and doesn't trend up.

Hey, your team's been good for a long time and they still have a nice window. A lot of teams had the crap kicked out of them in the playoffs year in and year out before they won it all. I think people get a little spoiled watching the fast rises of the Pens and Hawks, and think you should be able to just slap together a Cup winner in a couple offseasons.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a bunch of titles like New York and Boston fans. That said, when you wait for a long time (like I did with the SF Giants), it does make it that much sweeter.....especially since it was so unexpected. I'm not a football or basketball fan, so I can't rest on their championships, lol.
