D2 2017 rookie draft

Well I would like to bring that up for discussion at our next rule change meeting,

This may be a reach, but I predicted this dude would be an NFL star back in 2011 when he was a junior in high school. The crazy thing is that to my knowledge, he has never played football before. He does move very well and he has the best hands I have ever seen, on a basketball court anyway.

I was planning on going back to back with he and Swoope. Athletes are athletes.... some become good football players.

Must have been before I joined, or maybe it was brought up before for D1.

I found a post saying we'd cut down to 20 sometime in the preseason but I could be wrong

Is it around the same time as the NFL teams cut their roster?

I hope so, because I don't want to have to cut 5 anytime soon. I can do 3, no problem.

It just doesn't make much sense to me to have 5 rounds (at 16 teams) of players who will probably be lucky to make a practice squad, just to turn around and cut them before they even have that chance to make the team. If we have a 5 man "taxi" squad, it makes this process worth it to try to find that guy who will work his ass off and see the field in a year or two, then let you decide whether it is worth it to keep him on your 20 man roster.

The cut down date is set for the first week of preseason. I was going to bring it up after the draft with a few other items. Maybe push it back a few weeks into preseason.

... to 75 is August 30.
... to 53 is September 3.​

I'd love to see our cut down date the same as Sept 3.
We're all usually on pins and needles waiting for the season to kick off on September 8.
This will give us something to do making last minute roster adjustments as the bottom 80 in the D2 hit the open market.

It will be discussed after the draft, but with all of us having last weekend drafts and then the amount of work on me. I would prefer maybe a week or two before this. But the more I think about the original date, the more I believe it should be pushed back.

I do like to keep it NFL like, but you make a great point about last weekends drafts.
