not really a pretty game, against a bad opponent but I have to say the offense is at least tolerable when you have Ruiz, Ruf, Utley in there. They actually no how to give the pitcher tough at bats and they get on base. As a fan I just want to see them get the offense straightened out for now. I know they are not winning anything this year but at least that makes the games watchable.

Yea Cedrique, that is the apparent goal this year. Somehow resolve the Howard issue and get the offense consistent.

That's what I'm hoping for. They have such a great stadium and it's a really good hitters park. I think it would be a lot easier to tolerate a little rebuilding if they could just start bringing in the right kind of player for the park they play in. 21-32 at home is ridiculous. And even if the record doesn't immediately get better, it will at least be interesting to watch. I think they had 10 shutouts thrown against them in the first half of the season.

Also, I'm really rooting for Grady Sizemore. He hasn't shown too much power yet but he has hit some hard line drives and he knows how to get on base. If they trade Byrd for some prospects he would be a good guy to keep around, maybe even for next year too. The great thing about him is he hustles and busts his ass so he will be liked by the fans but he also is not a "lifetime Phillie" so if/when they ever get an outfielder in their minor league system that can hit it won't be a big deal replacing him.

I totally agree on your observations of CBP and the approach the Phillies should take in going attaining the expressed goal of the offense.

I also totally agree on Sizemore. I must admit I was not sold on the guy when he was signed and sent down to polish up his game but he has proven that he can consistenly get on base by putting the ball in play and he doesn't make many mistakes in hitting and fielding. I now like the guy because he produces in many baseball scenarios and his hitting has been damn good compared to say a Howard. Yikes!

It's only been 44 plate appearances so far, but Sizemore's 131 OPS+ has been a pleasant surprise

I agree Omar. I wasn't thrilled when Boobens first signed Sizemore but Grady has won me over as his hitting has been excellent and his field defense has been pretty darn good as well. This one, (dare I say it) Boobens got right so far.

Frikin' fart-boy is on the mound and he has already put two on and now Trumbo has hit a center field base hit and the D-backs are on the scoreborad first. The first two guys we should get rid of ASAP is Lee and Howard. Package them together and send them to the Yankees and get rid of this dead, riff-raff that do nothing but take money and then talk a bunch of BS about winning championships.

Lee has thrown 24 pitches in the first round and there is still an out to go. People are hitting .444 against his cutter and .300 against his fastball. The man is done.

IDK BPNAZ but tonight he looks terrible. First inning and he has already thrown 33 pitches.

He lucked out of that inning and only allowed one run in a side that could have been worse.

Done is a ridiculous overstatement at this point. BPNAZ is spot on on this one. Cliff loves it on the Phillies and will do whatever it takes to stay

Nice base hit Utely and Rollins goes to third. Let see if Howard is "fixed".
