Reds Trade TJ Hopkins To Giants
The Reds traded outfielder TJ Hopkins, whom they designated for assignment last week, to the Giants on Tuesday. Read more at MLB Trade Rumors.www.mlbtraderumors.com
The Giants already have 7 outfielders set for AAA (Trenton Brooks, Yusniel Diaz, Luis Matos, Wade Meckler, Chase Pinder, Heliot Ramos and Blake Sabol). He doesn't carry a profile that screams "must have" over these guys.Just coming to update for this trade.
That is pretty much my exact thought. He is destined to be DFA’d. Just a waste of time.
I wouldn’t list Sabol in that group. And I think there will be significant trades still to come that should free up space. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ramos gone from that group specifically. The Giants already have 7 outfielders set for AAA (Trenton Brooks, Yusniel Diaz, Luis Matos, Wade Meckler, Chase Pinder, Heliot Ramos and Blake Sabol). I think the Giants will continue to use Sabol as a catcher-outfielder hybrid. They seem to like that in their catchers (they did that with Jackson Reetz, Brett Aeuerbach, Thomas Gavello and a few other catchers in the farm last season). And I think he's ticketed for AAA with the Murphy signing (assuming Murphy is healthy to start the year. No guarantee given his last few seasons). Ramos may be subtracted but there is still plenty of outfielders left.I wouldn’t list Sabol in that group. And I think there will be significant trades still to come that should free up space. I'm not thrilled with the Giants' direction for 2024. They want to trade for a shortstop? Oh yay.
Didn't Rosario play more 2nd base this past season? And Anderson bottomed out. Not sure I'd want him but maybe a 1 year deal would inspire him? (Although, his potential walk year didn't create any inspiration, unless he wasn't out of Chicago so badly that he made sure his option was not exercised).Free agent shortstops as of 1-6-24. Not very inspiring, though Rosario or Anderson may be decent.
Amed Rosario (28 years old, 2.9 WAR)

José Iglesias (34, 1.0) -- signed MiLB deal with NYM (Dec. 5)
Paul DeJong (30, 0.4) -- signed 1-year deal with CWS (Nov. 28)
Nick Ahmed (34, 0.3)
Joey Wendle (34, 0.3) -- signed 1-year deal with NYM (Nov. 30)
Garrett Hampson (29, 0.2) -- signed 1-year deal with KC (Nov. 29)

Danny Mendick (30, 0.0)
