I doubt it. I would think teams would have sufficient motivation to only put players who are going to be out of action for at least 60 days on there. For players that they want back, they are going to be hesitant to put them out of action longer than needed and for guys on the tail end of their 40 man roster, they aren't going to want to pay them for that much service time.
I think 14 extra spots is plenty. If they can’t field a full 26, tough. There is no way they would be given an exception to have 41 on the 40. If they cant add another bat to the 26 (the whole Pitcher/Batter restrictions to the 26 are so lame), then they should be required to DFA someone to make room.

This is entirely an academic discussion, of course. The Giants can still add Lee to the 60 in order to add whomever they are looking at to add.

Curt Casali might not be much of an improvement over Jakson Reetz at this stage in his career. Both are below-average catchers, but Casali has some track record of being a serviceable offensive producer as recently as 2022.

Importantly, Casali seems like the type of catcher that pitchers like throwing to. That veteran experience helps.

He knows the org, so he should be able to transition easier than some rando coming in.

With today's off day, I'm beginning to wonder if the Giants will just leave Winn active until Snell is ready to come off the IL, unless they decide to carry an extra bullpen arm (either Roupp or Teng, or dfa Teng and recall someone like Garza or Sanchez) for the in between.

I'd imagine that Winn is still technically in the rotation. Harrison, Hicks, Webb and Winn are the only SP on the roster.

I'd actually rather see if Black can figure it out than Winn.

I think both Black and Roupp are higher on the priority list for the org than Winn. I would love to see Roupp given an opportunity, but I haven’t followed his progression in the minors.

Roupp's AAA starts have been rough so far. Not sure if he is above Winn in the depth charts or not but I have to think Black is above both right now.

Black is probably the #2 SP prospect in the system right now (assuming Harry is graduated for the purposes of this discussion)

Roupp threw 4 shutout innings against a good OKC team yesterday, striking out 7.

glad to have so many decent pitching prospects in the pipeline.

Jorge Soler is back at Oracle after two rehab games in Sacramento. No moves yet, but the expectation was he would be activated tonight.

We should sell a few players for prospects. With Lee out its a tank year anyway.
