SF Giants shut down projected four starter with elbow soreness
The SF Giants have shut down promising young starting pitcher Keaton Winn with elbow soreness.www.si.com
Apparently he had similar “pains” last spring. Too early to set the building on fire. But it certainly deserves attention.Typical ST stuff...rather it be in Feb than in May...
That may not be any better. Chronic elbow soreness could be a big red flag. I'm lighting the match now.Apparently he had similar “pains” last spring. Too early to set the building on fire. But it certainly deserves attention.

They may be considering Szapucki's start to the season "rehab" and want to monitor him there before giving him a clear shot at a bullpen spot.Ahmed added as an NRI
Crawford and Szapucki sent to minor league camp.
While this doesn’t mean his chances are zero to make the opening day roster, I am slightly surprised about Szapucki getting “cut” this early.
They have the free move of 60’ing Beck. I don’t really think there is any question on that one. When the Chapman signing becomes official, do the Giants (A) put Beck on the 60 day IL; (B) trade Davis, Flores or Wade; or (C) dfa one of Bart, Villar, Hummel, Lopez, Wisely, Meckler, R Rodriguez or Small?
They may want to wait to see how surgery goes before putting him on the 60 as I read that a timeline for recovery will be known after surgery. They have the free move of 60’ing Beck. I don’t really think there is any question on that one.
It’s official. Beck to the 60.They may want to wait to see how surgery goes before putting him on the 60 as I read that a timeline for recovery will be known after surgery.
There is a possibility of putting Cobb on the 60 day IL but that could possibly make him available slightly later than the best case timeline, which may also make the Giants hesitant to place him on the 60.
Despite not knowing how long he will be out, I guess that they felt confident enough that it will be at least 60 days. It’s official. Beck to the 60.
I think the doctor I saw explaining the injury said 4 months is the optimistic timeline. He could miss the year.Despite not knowing how long he will be out, I guess that they felt confident enough that it will be at least 60 days.
Per MLBTR:
MARCH 1: Giants right-hander Tristan Beck told reporters, including Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic, that he will undergo vascular surgery on Monday at Stanford to address the aneurysm in his upper right arm. He won’t have a timetable for his return until after going under the knife.
Ouch. I hate seeing young pitchers lose a season, especially when they are at the peak of possibly establishing a big league career. Often, they get lost in the shuffle when coming back.I think the doctor I saw explaining the injury said 4 months is the optimistic timeline. He could miss the year.
IIRC he said 2 months of recovery from the surgery, 2 months to rehab and then get up to game speed.Ouch. I hate seeing young pitchers lose a season, especially when they are at the peak of possibly establishing a big league career. Often, they get lost in the shuffle when coming back.
