Seattle had 4 games against AFC teams and the defense averaged giving up 21 points a game in those 4 games. That was against the AFC South that had the worst offensive production of any of the AFC divisions this season.

Another would be that Seattle has only played 1 top 10 offense this season in either yards or points. Now some of that could be they hurt the number for the team but at the same each of those games only counts as 1/16th of the final number.

I try not to read too deeply into stats, especially those that involve triangular comparisons (team A beat team B, and team C beat team A ergo team C is better than team B, or something like that). All that matters is the head to head contest looming ahead. And the broncos and Seahawks march up perfectly with each other pretty much on both sides of the ball. With so many strength on strength battles taking place, execution is everything.

The Broncos defense faces a different type of challenge with the Seahawks offense than they did with the Pats or Chargers. Not necessarily a harder one, but different. Where Rivers and Brady had the experience and resume as elite passers, Wilson is a mobile QB who can get the most out of a play even after it has broken down. The Broncos will probably have to keep a spy on him (Lenon, perhaps?) so when he gets into his scrambling shenanigans the defense can put a lid on it.

The secondary is going to struggle if the front can't contain Wilson. Seattle's receivers aren't the most heralded in the league, but make no mistake, they are capable of beating our guys especially if Wilson is running figure-eights in the backfield. And I haven't even mentioned Lynch yet!

But the defense has come together in the last 4 games, with Pot Roast emerging as one of the best players in the post season that nobody has ever heard of. He, Ayers, Sly, and Philips are playing some ball now, and they are going to need to bring it one last game.

Offensively...I'll have to continue later.

Oh I agree stats at this point mean very little. This is Goliath vs. Goliath in this game. Not sure I remember a game where both teams strengths on both sides of the ball lined up so perfectly and their weaknesses as well. Not sure I would have Lennon be the spy as he is lacking a little in closing speed say Wilson does take off. This is a game maybe stick Trevathon on him. Trev is usually our coverage linebacker but Seattle really doesn't have much in terms of TE or RB catching out of the backfield and has the speed to keep up with Russell plus is actually a pretty good blitzer.

Now as for my stats above mostly just pointing once again towards Seattle just really hasn't played a team or quarterback quite like Peyton. Brees is the closest thing but the two of them have such different styles of game that they play it is hard to really compare the two. Mostly Brees is big in the screen game which is like Peyton but because of his lack of size focuses more on the outside passing. I think he was 2nd to only Wilson in fewest passes down the middle of the field this season. Where for the Broncos they live in the middle of the field with all 4 guys loving to go across the middle.

My first instinct was to put Trevathon on Wilson, but if they dump off to Lynch or hit Zach Miller (a pretty decent tight end) Trevathon is most likely going to be the one in position to make the stop. Remember, Lenon may not have the speed, but if Wilson is scrambling it's because there are probably other Broncos in the back field too. Lenon doesn't need to be the one to bring him down, just contain so someone else can get to him.

I will say Lennon has really stepped up over the last month. When Woodyard was benched I couldn't believe that our coaches would do such a thing but now watching Lennon I just don't think he has given the coaches a reason to give it back right now. He has really helped to add some extra power up the middle against the run and will be huge in this next game. I wouldn't be surprised if they used him as a spy. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised by any of the 3 linebackers as I think Irving is pretty darn good at the run game and could do more than enough to contain Wilson.

How about this for a crazy stat:

Denver O-line= 317 lb average (Interior avg= 320)
Seattle O-line= 310 lb average (Interior avg= 308)

Denver D-line= 299 lb average (Interior avg= 324)
Seattle D-line= 298 lb average (Interior avg= 308)

Denver's lines are a bit beefier than Seattle's. Could give us a slight advantage, especially with interior lines.
