ccording to the NFLPA, 107 players tested positive for COVID-19 during the NFL offseason and 21 players have tested positive since players began reporting to training camp.
The NFLPA's update on COVID-19 cases comes as bigger and bigger names opt out of the 2020 season, including Patrick Chung, Dont'a Hightower, and Marcus Cannon of the Patriots. Today's COVID-19 update could look tame compared to what's coming.

Bears DT Eddie Goldman has opted out of the 2020 season due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the move is due to "health concerns," so perhaps Goldman will receive the "high risk" stipend of $350,000 instead of the standard $150,000. Players are not eligible for the $350,000 if the higher risk belongs to a family member. Goldman's guaranteed $4.75 million salary now tolls to the 2021 campaign. The No. 39 overall pick of the 2015 draft, Goldman seemed to break out in 2018, but he returned to being a league-average player in 2019. It's still a huge loss from a snaps perspective, especially against the run.

Marcus Cannon is a cancer survivor, so he's got good reason to opt out.

Now, if there's no season, does anyone get paid? If a player opts out, does he get paid, or does he only get paid if there's a season to opt out of?

If opting out is the only way for someone, particularly a borderline player, to guarantee at least some paycheck, they've given a lot of players a good reason to skip the season.

I'm seriously beginning to doubt that the NFL will have a season.

If they do I have my asterisk ready.

Are there any contract geeks that can tell me if the owners have any recourse to go after a prorated amount of signing bonuses from the players that opt out?

I'd say going from 2.6M to 150 Thousand is losing money, again no MAYBE about it.

Two people with knowledge of the details of the decision told The Associated Press that those who choose to voluntarily will receive a $150,000 stipend rather than their contractual salary. The deadline to opt out is Aug. 3.

Duvernay-Tardif signed a five-year deal worth $41 million in 2017. He was slated to to be paid a $2.75 million base salary in 2020, according to Over the Cap, so he's giving up at least $2.6 million to sit out the season.
It's well documented that @Guns N Guitars is dumb as a post.

You're going to have to cap your post at 2 sentences to ensure he gets the message.
