No, last season he got the benefit of playing a weak schedule the 2nd half. USC played most of their tough games early in the year and USC lost 3 of those games, 1 of which he started.

Then they played a weak schedule the rest of the year only facing Washington and Penn St late in the year.

He was 18/26 250 something yards, 0 tds, 0 ints in his first game they lost you're referring to. Not a bad first game against what was a solid Utah defense, even if they didn't win.

I personally thought it was USC's O-Line that was their problem, not QB last year when they played Alabama. I always roll my eyes when USC fans suggest they could have won/done a lot better with him @ QB. Because it wasn't going to change their OL(or their DL for that matter).

So I dunno, maybe he's still a good QB, but I don't buy the hype in terms of what they did to Browne.

His performance was stunning. Especially his performance against Penn State in the Rose Bowl. Hadn't seen anything like it in college football in years. There was a reason he was the overwhelming favorite for the Heisman this year coming in......weak schedule wasn't it. I haven't seen regression like this so quickly since Colin Kaepernick.

It is critical. Even Joe Montana looked bad with pressure in his face. Darnold just doesn't have "it". he'll be a bust in the NFL.

Bama completely dominated them in that game, no quarterback would have changed that. Beyond that game, he was a huge upgrade.

This year I think it’s receivers and o-line injuries. Juju smith was big time receiver. Regardless if it’s darnold coming back or someone else they need some growing up big time with receivers. I’m not sure I’ve seen a deep threat all year.
