We need some one who can stay healthy, catch the ball, and block when needed.

Cooley can catch the ball, and he COULD block when needed. But he couldnt stay healthy his last two years as the starter, and when he did get healthy, Shannahan cut him to keep Sleepy the pot head and Niles the Special team player. So I think its safe to say we burned that bridge, ground up the ashes and then put them in a hole full of cement.

According to this article the Redskins cannot sign Cooley for the upcoming season regardless of whether he could help. Here is the related excerpt:
