I think you can say "oof" to all three of those guys. Even if Bobby Ryan is a decent enough player, getting a poor man's Kessel as a consolation prize to Sid is rather disappointing.

That was a painful draft for Sabres fans. Despite being tied for the highest overall odds in that lottery, they ended up drafting 14th and taking Marek Zagrapan.

Bobby Ryan would seem great compared to that. Hell, I'd be happy with Pouliot even.

/I think some regression on the Flames will occur as well, when Lance Bouma has more even strength goals than Sidney Crosby, something's not quite right.

Again, I'm not saying McDavid will be a miss or even could be a miss. I'm saying laying "franchise savior" on the kid before his skates touch pro ice could be setting him up for a reduction of realized potential.

You mean like when Phil Esposito called Vinny LeCavalier the next Mario Lemieux at the news conference when they drafted him? Might have been a bit too much pressure for an 18YO....just sayin

Hahahahaha did not know that. But the Flames will have guys like Monahan and Gaudreau with a year more of experience. It's how they fill out the roster this summer that matters. This is the most important offseason in Calgary in the rebuild - there's really no reason they shouldn't make the playoffs next season. A signing here, a trade there, they can be a very tough out if the drunk bastard and his chosen one do this right.

And of course it's possible! If they trade Kessel they might actually go goalless for entire months at a time!

That wasn't Espo I don't think, it was Art Williams. He was a new owner and was excited about his new toy, I get it
