Last season, quite a few Pirate fans were pushing McCutchen as an MVP candidate (before he fell off a cliff, along with the rest of the team, during the second half). That effort was ill-advised (IMO) even in the first half, since Cutch's performance was well behind Matt Kemp's for the entire season.
This year, he seems to have re-dedicated himself to being himself and getting the most out of his talent. The result is that he deserves to have folks pushing him as an MVP candidate this year. IF he can maintain his current pace..... and IF the Pirates remain in contention (two pretty big IF's), McCutchen will deserve strong consideration. He has much to overcome, playing in a small market for a team which has been bad for so long..... but he's getting an increasing amount of national recognition.
I'm hoping for the best, for both the Pirates and McCutchen.
