While we're on the subject of guys getting hosed on individual player awards-
Christian McAffrey for MVP. Not even the top vote getter on his own team, as Gordon Ramsey would say..'what a shame'

Yeah, poor RBs and WRs and any defender, immediately start at a disadvantage for mvp no matter how big of a year they have.

I get the Stroud over Puka, although I'd say what Puka did was more impressive over the full season, Stroud was amazing for a rookie QB with unknown supporting cast and deserving of OROY

yeah both Puka and Stroud were deserving, couldn't argue that one either way. only part that sucks is that one had to win, and the other couldn't

Puka is still the NFC OROY in my book!

I will make my case

945 yards rushing 52 rec for 316 yards and 11 total TDs
4 yards rushing and 86 rec for 889 yards and 10 total TDs for a TE

89 yards rushing, 105 rec for 1486 yards and 6 total TDs still does it for me, although the Lions duo makes a great case.

well, he may be listed as a TE, but the dude was played as a WR. Still a stud though

And had Gibbs been given the touches he truly deserved, I do think he'd have seriously been in the running

So 304 yards is worth more than 5 TDs? Those are the differences between Gibbs and Puku.

Thinking about it in a standard fantasy scoring Puku would have .4 more points for the season.

A number of LaPorta's routes were throw a block, then do a 3 yard curl.

well true, but a number of Deebo's touches are rushes, and he's still a WR

I'd love to see a snap breakdown, see where he lined up, on the line or in the slot/outside the numbers, more often

Guess I could just find it myself-

It would appear that 55% he was in line.. 412 yds, 7 tuddies

The rest of the time slot or outside- 477 yds, 3 tuddies

for the sake of comparison- Kelce spent less than %40 of his snaps in line, and George Kittle was over 60% in line, Hock was in line 57%..
I guess i have to admit Laporta was used as a traditional TE more than I thought, but still less than he should be to be given full credit as a stud rookie TE imho. ;)

Here's the cool thing about this. The TE position is about to become very important now. No more guys spending years learning to block. Over the years, it's been guys like Kelce, Kittle, Gronk being the standouts. I think that is going to change. Don't sleep on guys like David Njoku, Juwan Johnson, Kyle Pitts, Dalton Kincaid and Michael Mayer, among others.

The times, they are a changin'.

Yup. Said that duringe off-season.

Rookie TEs are going to be similar to rookie WRs. Dependent on team and scenario, but could be fantasy relevant.

In no way do I believe that Laporta was a fluke or an outlier. It’s going to be a trend.

Maybe being the best fantasy TE was a rookie outlier. But being a fantasy starting TE wasn’t.

Although The lions might be a perfect storm we won’t see often.

A good offense with a limited passing tree and a coach that loves to take chances.

Breaking all-time records is enough to give Puka the edge for me.

Maybe Puka is thinking, "of all the years to have a rookie QB play extremely well!" :L:sigh:

Well in regards to rookie TE's... there was one good one, ok? One. SIX were taken in the first two rounds. 1 of 6 was a fantasy factor. 1.5 if you count that little bit where Kincaid mattered.

let's not get all twitterpated that somehow that signifies a big change in anything. In a vacuum, LaPorta was huge. In the big picture, rookie TE's are still not reliable fantasy assets. The 1 is an exception, the 5 are the proof

In the D2 rookie draft...
Stroud was the 15th pick (after 2 other QB).
LaPorta was the 19th pick (after 2 other TE).
Nacua was the 50th pick (after 18 other WR).
