Now they are trying to save a pitchers' arm, it is ridiculous they are using load management.

back in my day, it was EXTREMEMLY rare to see a stud little league/high school pitcher make it to the pros as a pitcher, cause their arms were shot by the time they were 20yrs old.

I'm a big fan of load mgmt leading up to the pros, and just like the rule changes protecting QBs, the load mgmt stuff in MLB is all centered around owners saying "I just paid how much for this guy and he's not available when it counts?!?!?" has nothing to do with the athletes, imo

excellent points about the increased skill level and velo's impacting pitch count

There's a very simple way to greatly increase casual in MLB, and it has nothing to do with eliminating the shift or universal DH.

Simply institute a rule where when a manager makes a pitching change, that pitcher must face a minimum of 3 batters or finish the inning. The biggest frustration I always had watching the games is seeing a pitching change to get a lefty/lefty matchup, and then another one on the next batter..it's a 15-20 minute, or longer, scenario to watch 2 batters cycle through. And if a Lefty specialist can't get a RH batter out, he has no business in the MLB to begin with

That is a rule now!

I will say this about MLB, when there is a 1 day playoff, those games have more appeal to me. Win-or-go-home types.

Since i am sharing, i dont understand why the NFL doesnt borrow from the NHL or MLB when it comes to QB?

If pitcher doesnt have it, he gets yanked. If a goalie doesnt have it, he gets pulled. Yet if a QB is having a bad first quarter... he gets to make things worse by staying in most of the game.

2018 TB Bucs finished 5-11, not sure we'll see that being copied any time soon

Assuming sport #2 is PGA?? Agreed. MLB, as long as you go into understanding that you get a little show and a nap...it's like a double feature, all good
You can tell if you watch golf, by the advertising, that it's intended for a niche market of people with lots of money. Other sports have ads for pizza, beer and trucks, golf has ads for watches, high-end cars and financial products. And golf clubs.

I'll even take it a step farther and say they are targeting people who have both money and time - I know a few upper middleclass folks that rarely have 3-4hrs to spend on a golf course between work and family

No shit??? Well, damn, if they hadn't completely destroyed the game with eliminating defensive strategy and the universal DH, I might be tempted to watch again
Word. I used to absolutely love baseball, but it took a small hit when they introduced the wild card and interleague play, a big hit when the HR records became meaningless, and “analytics” and all the in-game tweaks and running the game from the dugout are a bane to the game. And now the universal DH is terrible. One of my favorite things about baseball was strategy around the pitcher’s spot and how a pitcher handled the bat.

I understand why all of those happened, because baseball was falling behind as a television event and they wanted new eyeballs. But baseball has faded as part of our family tradition. My kids don’t care about it and I no longer care about teaching them.

The DH thing is awful. I even gave up my season tix to the Rockies (hate the management). I had them from day one until a couple of years ago.

believe it ..my 1st sport interest especially from the gaming angle was baseball

in my very early years i started collecting baseball cards.. and learning all the players on all of the teams..

as a 8 year old i could name all the stars and the managers and i made up games long before getting into Strat-o-Matic or APPA baseball or was it APBA i dont remember .... i even build my own park in the basement to play out my made up games.....i used my Hot Wheels track as a homerun fence.....and my mom says i did play by play broadcasting --- she seriously thought i would grow up to be a Play by play man..

of course i played and started into Hockey as a tyke as well seeing that it is my Hoser birthright and all.....

yet baseball was my deep love... oh the statistics loved em... and the game the strategy and my Boog Powell Orioles wow that was the best..

Then came opening day 1969 ... My Beloved Expos and an 11-10 Win at Shea ... my passion overflowed

through my early teen years i would go to the games at Jarry Park ( kinda same geography as being a youngen at Wrigley) i would come from the west suburbs then get downtown and from there head up to the North end of the big city

i was thinking here i am all grown up at 13 14 years old taking the bus and subway and seeing the big buildings and going to the big game...

then i discovered and ordered Strat-O-Matic baseball from this mighty big country south of my border

i had to go down to the posties custom house in Old Montreal and pay duties and taxes (that was a big surprise at the time what ya mean i need to pay some more ---Mom! i paid already what is this) --funny the thing i hate most today at work right now is collecting those same duty and taxes life indeed goes in circles..

this game oh this game i buried myself into strat-o-matic and my knowledge and love of Base Ball just exploded ..

all through my teen years i was enamored with this game and when you face the winters we face here in Montreal (especially when you need to do your paper route in the crap ) you and believe me I did just celebrate the arrival of spring training and then Yes Yes Yes opening day Lets Go Spos....

i moved on from delivering the Montreal Star to working on the Montreal Star trucks at the company downtown and now brought the papers to the little punks so they could deliver the papers just as i did man i was a big shot...

i mention the papers stuff just so that i can tell ya that i now was establishing new friends and coworkers and learning more about things as we all do as we move on from 16 to 17 to 20 etc etc ..

well at the Mtl Star i of course learned that other folk loved the game as well and it was then that i joined as we formed our big time APBA baseball league (or was it APPA) man oh man what i joy the statistics the camaraderie ..unbelievable......

it was so bad it cost me my 1st girlfriend the cutie ran off with another while i was fighting to win a championship against my workmates.. oh well at least the introduction to beer was nice...

by now The Expos are seriously good if not great team and spent many a season fighting for that elusive title my love was always there

cripes if i could be at the game then lets find a tv if not then the radio and those statistics in the paper the next day...

even carrying a transistor radio in the golf bag (no way i miss a pitch if i can help it) i still remember jumping up and down on the 18th hole fairway celebrating a late September Pennant Charged Win with the foursome behind waiting and screaming at us from the 18th tee box
--ironically im celebrating with a Bruin fan --is it possible a Hab fan and a dreaded Bruin fan in a loveless embrace Wow baseball has no limits...

so with the love described painfully for you all just above let me too state where it all went wrong

1--what more teams going to the dance no no no only the best can play you win the division you go to the big show...

2- DH what what what the f is this... what do you mean he can hit over and over and not take the field are ya crazy are you mad.... what there is more you telling me my pitcher cant hit (oops sorry i know he cant hit) you mean he cant even try to hit.. well maybe i want to bunt my light hitting number 8 hitter over i mean he got on didnt he..dont you understand strategy cripes i learned that when i was a kid playing Strat-O-Matic what is wrong with you.... oh well screw you American League at least my Expos and the National League understand the game

3-Expos are leaving town ya so they leave every winter ---i would too if i could--no dummy they are leaving and not coming back
WHAT! FU baseball.....

4-what what what the National League is doing it too you guys have lost the plot

5-oh my arm oh my arm ahh dont worry we have 20 more down there will just change arms every few pitches i mean come on who doesnt want to watch listen stream for the next 6 hours all is good......

and that is all........ Go Habs Go!

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reports that Saints RB Alvin Kamara is "bracing for a suspension of at least six games."
Kamara will face felony battery charges for allegedly throwing some punches at an incident at Allegiant Stadium at Las Vegas

Ok, I get the legal implications in having to not outright say he did in fact throw punches before he's had his day in court...however...there's friggin video of him definitively throwing punches. Shit like that just rubs me wrong

So I'm sitting on a job site awaiting an inspector, and I'm perusing FB, and one of those clickbait articles comes across my feed- "21 Players who should be removed from the HOF"
So I say, 'well, I'm not doing anything else, and we did just have some conversation about it, so wth?'

Most of the entries on this list were on their for off the feild stuff or just plain attitude issues- Ray Lewis, T.O., OJ, Brett Favre (which makes zero sense, SB, 3 time mvp..and a dick pic, big deal), Michael Irvin, THE o.g. LT, ..etc..and while sure there is stuff to point to, but HOF voters are explicitly told to factor in only on the feild factors when casting their votes, so it's a moot point.

But, Curtis Martin, Marcus Allen, Chris Carter, and John Riggins are on that list too..I can't understand why.
Riggins is in as a FB/HB and as a FB, he's definitively one of the best ever. The only dude to have a 1000yd season at age 35 or more, led the league in TD's at 34 and 35 years old, won a SB, all pro. He gets my vote.
Curtis Martin has already been discussed, 12 straight seasons 1k+ rushing, league leader in TD's, pro bowl..etc..hard to say no.
Marcus Allen?? Really?? A SB, multiple all pros, league leader in yards and TD's at various points, a SB MVP, an MVP...why is he on this list?? Becuase he 'hung in too long"? Dude had 500+ yds and 11 TD's at age 37..seems like he still was producing...just dont get it.
Chris Carter- ok sure, for a big chunk, he wasnt even the best WR on his team. But that other dude was Randy Moss, debatably the 2nd best WR of all time. Not Carters fault. His numbers stand up, although i do understand where the argument can be made.

But-. The one that gets me the most, and hes #1 on the list, Troy Aikmen. Seriously?? Sure he doesn't have gaudy numbers, very solid numbers, built in an era where RB's still got 400 touches, but know what he does have? A SB MVP and a 3 rings.

At least Joe Nameth was in the list, but he's the singular guy that if ANYONE is to ever be removed, he is the top of that list, without question., certainly not Aikmen.

Aikman never really had the numbers, but one. That is completion percentage. Today his percentage would be middle of the road, but in the 90s he was the first person to throw for I believe 67% or better in a season. Before Aikman 55% was HOF numbers. We lose the fact that before the rule changes of the early 2000s, QBs did not put up numbers anywhere near what they do today. Anytime you look at all time numbers and see a QB from before 2000 take a close look at that season.

I will say this:
I am not a HOF fan - in any sport. The whole idea of rewarding entertainers and athletes (millionaires, if you will) with more trophies and accolades is overkill imo. Way too many awards.

As for Aikman, always hated the Cowboys. Just 1 of those teams you love to hate. But in that era, Aikman and Emmitt were about as classy as they come.

If they gave an award for that, maybe the NFL wouldnt have some of the image problems they have.

They do...the Walter Payton Man of the Year.

Which Aikmen did win once:)

But point taken..it's nowhere nearly as well regarded as it should be
