Selke Trophy I thought Ryan Kesler would win upon seeing the nominees. I thought Jonathan Toews should have won. He finished well back of Kesler in second place. Manny Malhotra was a better Selke candidate from Vancouver. He played in their toughest defensive situations. It is nice to see that this year’s winner played on the penalty kill regularly, unlike Pavel Datsyuk who still managed a third place finish with only 56 games played.
Norris Trophy I picked Lubomir Visnovsky to win this and he finished fourth. The top four nominees were all quite close and each received a good number of first place votes. Of the nominees, I thought Zdeno Chara was most worthy, but he finished third. I am not surprised Nicklas Lidstrom won, but it seems more like a lifetime achievement award than one he deserved based on this season alone.

Worst blogger (and by a wide margin) on the KK site. I think Paul Kukla just keeps him around because he generates web hits.
/I'm not ragging on you Eddie, I just can't stand that blogger...
Let's hear some legitimate arguments against Lidstrom, not just head shaking at how ridiculous you think it is.
So I guess the trophies are fucking worthless now.
As far as the majority of hockey writers who determine who wins these awards with their votes, worthless may be harsh, but at times accurate.
Disagree. Nick had a monster year, and it's interesting to see all the flip-flopping on +/-. When you point out he's got one of the highest +/- in history, you're told it's not a very accurate stat and that much of it has to do with your linemates. Then when he has a minus year, fuck his linemates it's his fault and he's no longer defensively responsible!
Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune filled his ballot with Penguins players ... He was the guy that had MAF as a Hart winner and Letang as the Norris winner ... beat writers shouldnt be allowed to vote for the guys they cover day in day out
And the Norris was not a lifetime achievement award. Nick's strong play has been talked about since the first month of the season and was in the race all year.
I suppose he also got his first hattrick at the age of 40 because everybody felt sorry for the old guy too...
I agree with this but i also think alot of the writers saw a 43 year old guy (someone their age!!!) perform that well (even though it wasnt Lidstroms best year personally) and cast their vote accordingly
