To what end? If they save the money spent on Wentz what do they do with it that will will them a Super Bowl?

Is Wentz a bridge QB? For who? Who replaces Wentz and makes the team a SB winner? There are a lot of assumptions being made that none of us know whether they are true or not.

Lets say they sign Mariota or Bridgewater and save $19 million this year. How do you get to the Super Bowl from there?
Well, the draft. This is where teams are built and made.

A bridge QB would in theory prep the rookie QB to take over. We need to draft our franchise QB...not trade...not sign as a FA. That is what successful organizations do as you know. If I had my way, we would have 10 draft picks each year. Trades and FA would not be used to plug holes.

With the cap, we address positions of need that we do NOT believe we can draft. I would think CB depth and MLB in our situation. Its all about the draft.

wince is 30 yrs old , he doesnt have upside . he is what he is now , upside ? laughable fact is we wouldnt have struck out on all of them and only the panic stricken homer fan would think that . we traded for a bust qb who gagged vs the jags with the season on the line

sure, judge him on one game. its not a panic move if he is the better qb

i am judging him on his career , former 2nd round bust who failed with 2 teams , who padded his stats and choked when the game is on the line

I know what you mean, someone like:
Heath Shuler
Patrick Ramsey
Jason Campbell
Robert Griffin
Dwayne Haskins

Then they can sign - Josh Norman and Jon Bostic

All kidding aside ... it is a lot easier to say than do. Not that they shouldn't try.

We are awful at drafting in general.

Our drafted QBs are terrible. Funny thing, our 2nd QBs taken in a draft actually do better than the1st rounders...LOL
Gus Freotte
Kirk Cousins

Come to think of it, its almost like trades are actually what work for us. Mark Brunell was awesome as was Santana Moss.

I think out of our 3 Super Bowl QBs, two were drafted: Joe Theisman and Mark Rypien. Doug Williams was a FA from the USFL.

Our drafted WRs are almost worse. From the past 20 years, I can only think of Rod Gardner, Jamison Crowder and Terry McLaurin. Albert Connel was pretty good for a season or two.

You are right, our QB draft history is terrible. WR history is laughable.

C'mon Dean

you're looking at this incorrectly so let's be clear...

Let's say that you have to select from a handful of QBs, rated 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, and 32 in the league, you decide to go with the one rated 25th in the league, and now your selling point is that he was the best of the bunch, do you forget about the fact that he's ranked 25th?

With Wince, we have a twice-failed QB with no upside that he's been able to tap into at any of his previous stops. Washington trades for him and he is being sold by you as better than any QB currently on staff and one of the better of the miserable ones available which is true!

Should we forget about him as a two-time failure elsewhere who can't tap into what his physical skills indicate?

exactly no one knows where a FA QB is will land. So, if we struck out on those guys we mentioned (lesser QB's than what we have now). Plus lost out on Wentz, what would we have done? Rely on the draft? We paid more money, but we got a better QB with better upside.
If you believe that the goal is to simply get to the playoffs, then why are we not signing Heinicke to a long-term extension and brand him the QB of the future? Did he not help lead us to the playoffs in 2020?

Suppose Wentz does lead us to the WC simply because we play in the worst division in the NFL, do we pick up his option and continue to pay him? According to your logic, we should have signed Heinicke to a long term extension because he "got us to the playoffs".

I don’t think Dean knows what a truly winning team looks like . I remember the 70’s and 80’s when yr in yr out we had a chance at Super Bowls and actually winning them .

I remember when the skins took the field the expectations were a win vs anybody , we were elite

Now we hope to back into the playoffs with 7-8 wins vs a cream puff schedule while declaring wince there king of toilet bowl cleaners

Right

I started my career as a fan in the mid-80's. Skinsdad, I remember being shocked if we didn't make the playoffs. I recall stepping on the field and simply mauling the other teams. I loved watching the ball getting thrown to Monk and watching him dart his way to the end zone. Same with Clark...I loved that guy.

I loved Earnest Byner and Gerald Riggs...they were amazing. Terry Allen and Stephen Davis were very good as well. I even remember the Westbrook years...LOL.

Bottom line, yes, Dean is probably a younger fan and the best QB he has seen is probably Cousins I am assuming?

Dean will disagree with that entire line of thinking.

Until Rivera fully embraces the idea of improving the roster, we are stuck. He wants "his" guys and nothing else. He will die on the hill fighting for Wentz and Turner.

I dont know why we should think that RR would die on the hill for wentz. He doesnt even know wentz.

His own carolina guys? Sure.

Because he allegedly researched all QB options with Joe Gibbs and that is who Rivera is putting the keys of this franchise in the hands of. Rivera has to go into year 3 with a QB and he knows that. He personally believes that QB is Carson Wentz.

If Rivera is wrong, he will probably and should probably lose his job. So yes, Rivera is tying his tenure here with Wentz and is going to live or die with Wentz.
