It doesn’t take half a billy to get the locker room out of the 80s.

True, but the Flames need a new arena. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to spend a bunch of money on a beautiful new dressing room when hopefully that comes with a new arena in 5 to 7 years time.

Ok but if they did this ten years ago when everybody else did they would’ve gotten 15-17 years out of it and who knows, maybe their facilities would’ve helped keep a UFA or two? This stuff matters these days.

I dunno. There aren’t many old stadia left in American pro sports but this can’t be too far off the Oakland A’s clubhouse and I’m pretty sure sewage overflows that room twice a month.

Well, just for comparison, here are the Tampa Bay and Capitals dressing rooms...Are they really that much better than the Flames?

Meh, I think things such as weather and things to do as a young person are much more important factors than how pretty a dressing room is. Calgary's weather is okay, but it doesn't hold a candle to places in the southern part of the US where you can golf year round and for things to do, if you like the outdoors, Calgary is great, but as far as nightlife is concerned and entertainment choices, Calgary is not very good.

This was started last season. They are doing the workout facility this year. Can't find what it cost anywhere.

It was pretty ugly before:

This is the AAA Jackets room in the same building:

Of course, in a perfect world, the Flames would already have been playing in a spanky new arena for about the last 6 years or so. The price of a barrel of oil was over 100 dollars and lest we forget, the major flood that hit the Saddledome in 2013 had water in the lower bowl up to almost the first 10 rows of seats. The new Calgary mayor appears to be even more reluctant than Nenshi to spend taxpayer dollars, so it could still be some time before shovels are in the ground.

Here's a Reddit thread where someone compiled pics of all the rooms. Calgary isn't even an outlier. Some teams clearly spent big, but most look basically the same. That Philly room is worse than the one my High School team uses.

Flames one just seems incredibly small and low-budg compared to even some of the shittier ones like Philly and Washington.

But yeah, I guess just like everything else the NHL is bottom of the barrel for this stuff.

The Flames also own the Stamps and they also need a new football stadium to replace McMahon Stadium. McMahon may have great sitelines, but the stadium (like the Saddledome) is falling apart.

I say move the NHL team and invest everything into the CFL team.

He might be telling the truth on teams offering more but if he wanted the chance to REALLY win now he should have stayed with Colorado for less and allowed them to sign more players. He got a great deal and made the flames better but there are still better teams than Calgary . Markstrom is still an x factor in all this

What a roller-coaster off-season for the Flames, I think they will be a better team than last season, but until they take the ice, who really knows?
