es no bueno

The latest I say was a supposed 8 year offer of 9.5 shmill per season - Let's say the Flames up that to 10 shmill per season, that would make any other team have to go close to 12 shmill on a 7 year deal. Stay tuned.

If they haven't yet why not? If that's what they're willing to go to probably time to do so no?

Not sure what the hold-up is to be honest, regardless of what happened against the Oilers, that's still a pretty good Flames team that needs to take another crack at a Stanley Cup run with #13 and #19.

Somebody supposedly with a connection to the Flames posted how things transpired between the Flames and Johnny and if true doesn't paint a very good picture regarding negotiating in good faith. Basically, Gaudreau and Gross presented the Flames with a final take it or leave it offer which the Flames matched. However, several hours went by and there was radio silence from the Gaudreau camp. They finally did come back and rejected the Flames offer and it was at this point that Flames owner Murray Edwards stepped in and tore Johnny a new one for a) rejecting the offer that they submitted which was matched and b) stopping the Flames from doing other business while awaiting an answer.

Again, who knows if the above is true, but it likely explains how emotional Treliving was at his presser as he truly believed they had a deal in place to bring Johnny back to the Flames and it all fell apart.

Actually New Jersey taking it harder. I would need to drink from Niagara falls to offset the salt coming from jersey.

It was a little strange, twatwaffle asked him about Calgary and he said "I wasn't going to talk about it today" and then he went on to talk about teammates and the fans in Calgary and how special a place it is to him. then he said his wife and he decided it was best for them not to go back to Calgary. Got "don't want to say but leadership is terrible" vibes from it. He clearly didn't want to talk about it.

I believe this 100%. I also believe the flames didn't fail but then they should have had backups in case.

I agree with the bolded above. I wonder if any deadlines were set to have a deal in place (it doesn't appear to be the case) and in my opinion, that's a mistake. Communication between the two parties broke down at some point and when that happens, trust usually erodes as well.

I'm just so used to the Benning era failing so miserably during free agency I guess I'm actually stunned it happens elsewhere

lol - Oh Treliving has had more than has fair share of gaffes. The Brouwer signing, the Neal signing, woof on both of those.
