Not sure if the outdoor game had anything to do with it but the Jackets have looked like a team running on fumes for the last couple of weeks.

Has all the earmarks of a young team that improved faster than most (including themselves probably) expected, then just ran out of gas down the stretch.

Doubtful that happens again. The Jackets have a really nice future, IMO.
Zach ran out of gas for sure. He needs a rest as he's never really played a full season in his career.

I would have expected the injured guys coming back to provide some jump, but Jenner has been less than stellar. Another big issue is Provorov and Olivier playing hard worried about their futures here. Olivier got signed an Provorov stayed put, and both have dropped off a cliff.

And our goalie had another baby, and the wife and baby wound up in Intensive Care. And our other goalie is apparently completely cooked.

It's been a fun ride, they way over-achieved. Need to fill out the forwards (Bennett and Boeser, please), get a vet backup in net and next year should be much, much better.

Adamo Fantilli with his 25th. First player from his draft class with a 25 goal campaign.

It takes 400 games to learn how to play defense, according to gubberson
He's actually been decent paired with Mateychuk. He doesn't have to do much except cover when Mateychuk attacks.

I still think that Severson is the answer there long term (Or a free agent), but he's been okay. And when he's on the ice, JMFJ usually isn't. Which is a bonus

Elvis is injured. Took a Sanderson slapper off the neck last game.

Jackets called up Jet Greaves, who played last night in Cleveland. He made the two hour drive down here today. He is getting the start in an elimination game, not Tarasov.

ooof.

Absolutely the end of the line for Daniil. Elvis has been snakebit since the stadium game, has had tons of issues off the ice too and Tarasov only got in 2 games, one of which he got pulled after 5 minutes. Now, an AHL goalie gets the start over him on the second night of a personal back to back.

That hip surgery is a bitch. Kudos to him for holding down an NHL job for one season after it.

Greaves came in and played well. 36 saves on 38 shots after a shaky start giving up 2 on 9.

So, of course, that means we can cut Tarsov and Elvis and just let him play every game next year and we are shoe-ins for the cup in perpetuity. And Reimer played ok at the other end, so we can just sign him as backup.

I wish my brain was so mushy that everything seemed that simple.

Couple of the Jackets were apparently amused the refs tried to talk to Voronkov in English
