The fact there was a "race" to sign Tanev is still very weird to me. He had his best season in years after being thoroughly destroyed by injuries and in an offseason where mid-tier d-men were (and still are) falling from trees he got paid for that above-mean performance by a team that saw him (or didn't see him) up close and personally more than any other in the league.
