Alabama should get a Bye in round 1 of the playoffs by virtue of going 13-0 and they should play the hottest remaining team...so essentially whoever wins the Rose Bowl.

Let's truly see how much better these teams got throughout the long season. It's not how you start, it's how you finish.

my point is, the committee sent a message that you can schedule 3 "little sisters of the poor" teams, win all three and get into the playoffs.

Yep. And they sent a message that you don't need to worry about winning your division or conference.

Yes and no.

The message is that if you schedule tough OOC games, you have more options to get in the playoff. The only reason Ohio State is in is thanks to their win over OU. Obviously, there's risk involved because if you lose those OOC games like OU did, you eliminate yourself from contention early on. If you schedule weak OOC games, you'd better run the table or at the very most have 1 loss to have any hope to get in.

Winning your conference is still extremely important...in 3 years, 11 of 12 CFP reps have been conference champs. Penn St's problem is their 2 losses. There hasn't been a single CFP rep that's had more than 1 loss yet. You need a lot of things to go your way if you get 2 losses, even if you win your conference.

why exactly did a 5-7 miss st team make a bowl? along with the 6-6 galore teams of the sec? sec bias lives even in a down year? is this the prime reason for no 9 game schedule?
