Didn't really matter to me because I'm old and don't do anything special for new years.

But I know many people will be happy about this change.

I don't have "plans" (in fact, I purposely avoid being out of the house on New Year's eve - if a drunk hits me with a car, it will be in my family room, and that is at the back of the house) but having to work with no way to avoid it really sucked last year.

College Football Playoff Announces Plans to Move Semifinal Games From New Year's Eve

The College Football Playoff announced Thursday a shift in scheduling for future national semifinal games. The move ensures all semifinal games will be played either on Saturdays or holidays and not on New Year's Eve.

Missed the first game last year because I had to work (if I had called off, I would have lost my holiday pay).
Yup, really glad they did this. I was on vacation in Chicago last year and we had new year's eve plans (as most of the country does). So we were out to dinner that night when the game was being played at some fancy steak house with no TVs. If I hadn't been eating a ribeye dry aged 40 days and drinking old fashions, I would have been pissed.

So, they are finally going to quit kowtowing to the Rose Bowl, huh?

Rose Bowl is New Year's Day, this announcement has no effect.
