If this goes through, it's just more of the rich getting richer. Sure, there are "other" types of people playing, especially CBB, but most people who play college sports are spoiled rich kids, and the majority of them, about 80%, will not make it to the pro-level.

So should those athletes who have no superstar potential get any kind of compensation when they already have a job waiting for them when they get out of college JUST BECAUSE THEY PLAYED A COLLEGE SPORT?

Also, what about those that are immature. They will use their money to gloat over others, to further a already unfair division between athletes and non-athletes.

I wonder if the next rule will be allowing athletes to enroll in part-time courses. Now that will be all kinds of awful. They would be truly working less harder than full-time students who are NOT athletes, and many who have jobs while going to school.

You know. While I think college athletes should be paid, I have read some really interesting and valid pieces on why they shouldn't.

This isn't one of them.

I have no issue with the kids being able to make money off their name, image, and likeness.

The NBA is changing their rule back to 18, to play in the NBA. That should put to rest the need for college
athletes to be paid.

They can make their first "Life's decision" when they are 18. Make themselves eligible for the NBA draft
out of HS. If they are good enough, they'll get their money. If they aren't they can practice living on the
streets for the rest of their life.

The alternative is...To accept a college scholarship. Have their room, board, tuition and books paid for. Plus
they get money for incidentals while in school. They can opt for an education and a career for the rest of
their life.

It's up to them.

So you're fine with athletes driving around in expensive cars, wearing the best clothes, and being even more physically fit because they can afford the best trainers? You're fine with someone who's just a supporting player on a team just playing for no professional sport career to get paid and to have a job after college too? While other people have to take out student loans and be in debt after college and possibly have a uphill battle getting a job. Yes, that seems really fair. These athletes will use this money to buy the best things money can buy. Many of them who are just in it for the ride unfairly getting paid when there is no NBA, NFL, or MLB career waiting for them. Athletes already have advantages. Non-athletes work just as hard, especially those in STEM majors.

If the college athletes at my damn school got paid, I'll be livid. It's a junior college though so hopefully the NJCAA does not count.

the school is profiting from them, u realize that correct? im not saying the scholarship itself is not enough, but you do realize millions and millions are made from these kids? you would be ok with someone profiting from you?

They already do/are.

Yes. I'm fine with someone having a job after college.
While other people have to take out student loans and be in debt after college and possibly have a uphill battle getting a job.
Think of it this way: there'll be less student dept.

As long as it doesn't effect the team/person and their performance on/off the field.

If STEM majoring was a sport Brees#1 would be a free agent.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say you don't do too well in those STEM classes at your junior college. If you had a better concept of logic and mathematical proofs you could easily find several logical and empirical arguments to prove your point or at least make a convincing argument. While it's not technically STEM, if you were mildly proficient with even your high school English classes you could make a compelling argumentative or persuasive written statement about why you're right from an emotional, traditional, or nostalgic standpoint. Instead you sound like a whiny bitch, jealous of what other people have. All the while you're making logical fallacies, over generalizations, and incorrect assumptions.

Plenty of people go to college to have a career! Most college students are not athletes. Also, I have another point to point out.

And what makes you think it won't affect their performance on the field? Look at athletes in professional sports after getting paid. We're talking immature 18-22 year olds here.

I have 4.0 (which is the max at my school) with As in Biology, Statistics, and all of my English classes. Try again.

If athletes get paid, then they will all flock to the same schools, leaving more schools with even worse athletic programs and forcing their athletic programs to shut down. Other schools would lose enrollment because of this, and that will cause problems financially for the education system.
