You can tell what the Broncos really feel about Kaepernick......
holding out for the $4 million difference - Broncos spend $4 million:

Broncos lure Texans D-end Jared Crick to Denver

Elway for the most part whether good, bad, or in between has always done the "this is our price that we think is fair and you take it or leave it." He is not really big into the let's exchange offers for weeks back and forth thing. You usually get once chance to come back to the negotiating table where he maybe ups the offer but otherwise he digs in and sticks to his guns. Now I will say for the most part I have loved that Elway has been this way as it has helped us Cap Wise stay competitive every single season and be able to make some decent signings when they benefit the team. There are those times though I do worry it upsets the player when Elway is just so stuck in his ways that maybe it has caused a few to leave that if he was a bit more gentle in his ways maybe they stay.

I do think Elway is showing that while they like Kaepernick they also are not so set on they have to have him to win. Otherwise I think it is a done deal as Elway knows better than most how important having a competent QB is to the success of the team. He knows he can't lean on the defense to carry them quite like it did this past year.

Due to the net difference between California State Income Tax and Colorado's - for year 1 Kaepernick is only $2 million off of what he would make with the 9ers - it is year 2 that is the bigger problem.

Yeah read something about that. I always wonder how much that factors into a players' thoughts giving the California teams a huge disadvantage. I'm starting to think that Elway has moved onto the draft. I don't think this cap space opened up was about getting Kaepernick one bit. We needed $9 million for the draft and for injuries during the season no matter whether we signed Kaepernick or not. So if we want to sign him we would have to make another move anyway.

It's interesting - when the Broncos brought CJ back - they mentioned his leadership role on the team. Sanchez is going balls to the walls to show his leadership abilities - in his southern Cal passing game camp.

Kaepernick - IMO - is not acting with leadership and confidence in his contract situation - he's playing Hamlet. This is why Elway is going offering Kaepernick - back up QB money - he is a risk - post injury and post mental trauma of the last three years.

The two college QBs who are not named Wentz (Wentz - of course - did not play against the top level competition)- who showed leadership and made their teams better - were Lynch and Prescott.

I like this about Elway.
Reminds me of my friend Steve. Steve owned hundreds of houses. He'd buy another almost any time - at his price. Included with the offer was a large check and a statement, "all counter-offers go in the trash unread"

ED was talking this the other about Denver and something in effect of it would been nice for Dever to have made a contract offer after the SB .. he forgot about the contract offer during the season ..

Like CD said not to many second chances .. Jackson and Oz seemed to crack that a little

Is it not a salary cap issue. Finding $4MM in the cap is like finding change in the sofa. Very easy to do. The $7MM number is related to Chase Daniels. The highest paid backup in the NFL. (Thank you Eagles for screwing up both Oz and Kaep numbers). Denver wants to pay Kaep elite backup money and if he starts through playing time incentives he make back his full salary.

Exactly. If 9ers get a QB in round 1, we could even have a draft day trade pre-arranged with 9ers picking up a portion of his pay to get rid of him. If they don't get a QB then I think they will try to keep Kap.

Rumor is broncos/niners have deal in place for kap if the 9ers draft a QB. The Rams moving up may hurt that a bit.
