always remember, poll results are largely people who
a) have a land line at home
b) answer it

I still have a landline at home! And I don't think I've answered it - unless it's an expected call - in over 10 years, probably more like 20 years.

I never thought about that, but it would definitely skew polls.
Me too! I only have it because its bundled with my cable. And my mother still calls me on that line
:)

Its also the number I give whenever a business or someplace wants my number. So yeah, it gets 10 calls a day - all spam.

Ha, my parents are the opposite. They have internet bundled with their Verizon landline because it was cheaper than just having the landline service alone. They don't have computers or smartphones, so the only time the internet gets used is when us kids visit.

It makes sense for them since they've had this same landline phone number since the early 70s.

I still have my VZ landline. I’ve had it since I started there when we were Bell Atlantic in ’97. It’s bundled with my Fios TV and internet.

I can’t drop the landline, because I would lose my employee concession for the free FiOS TV.

I haven’t had a physical phone plugged into the jack in at least 15 years, but I call forward any calls received from my landline to my cell phone. They are all Robocalls or wrong numbers.

For a while (1997-2003) I had 4 landlines in the house. 2 for my remote work(modem/fax & calls) , 1 for my wifes job (modem) and 1 for personal use.

Haven't had 1 for at least 10 years now.

Bell did this with me back in Ontario, I told them I don't need the phone service and they said it would be more expensive.

Also I renovated that house and my dad accidentally sliced the line for the phone on the main floor when he was cutting some studs, which we thought "eh, who cares" except that the TV came through the phone line so they had to run another line through the ductwork.

I give my old landline number from when I lived in Maryland. I've been in Columbus 16 years. Had VoIP for 4 years before I moved.

I covered all the phone jacks in my house with blank plates.

Lol up until about 10 years ago we had a long corded phone on the wall. We didn't use it so we never noticed or cared it was odd.

Our landline is part of the bundle too but I dont think Id give it up anyways since it has a whole bunch of zeroes in the number (wifes aunt arranged for us to get the number when she worked at Telus so she could remember it) and every time i tell people the number people ask "how the hell did you get that number?"

We dont answer the phone unless its family/friend/known number. Correction: my kids always answer the phone when an unknown obvious spam number rings us and alway say something stupid like "Pizza Hut can I take your order" Thats like my daughters third biggest hobby i think.

/which is rather odd since to generalize ... kids dont talk on phones
let me know if youve heard this one ... its a thing i just found out about. My son texts his friend to ask him if he needs a ride to hockey and he doesnt get a text back. we get in the car ...

Me: Am i picking up your friend?
Son: I texted him and he didnt respond
Me: Well? Are you gonna call him?
Son: ok
Me listening ... phone rings ... sons friend picks up the call and says "Yah" ... my son ends the call
Me: why did you hang up? I heard him answer
Son: yah I know. I was just notifying him about my text
Sons friend texts back he doesnt need a ride

My house was built in 2014. The builder literally ran CAT 5 everywhere and terminated them with phone jacks. :L

Yeah that was one of the first things I fixed after moving in.

Note: I didn’t have a say as I wasn’t the original owner, so I wasn’t part of the build process.

My mom still has a rotary phone plugged in and it still works.

Those old phones make efficient weapons between the heavy solid state and the phone cords. I mean if you need a quick weapon for the occasional burglar confrontation or more frequent domestic dispute.

No. It's not our fight, let the young people of Iran handle it. Offer support, offer to help them rebuild - but stay out of it.
