Currently watching a live stream of anti-war/anti Putin protests in Moscow. Looks to be thousands if not tens of thousands of people. There are columns of riot cops going through the crowd, grabbing anyone who shouts anything and dragging them into unmarked paddy wagon style trucks. And there look to be at least 50 of those. Each one the size of a small city bus.
Magically they will all accidentally fall out of windows.

I saw one 50ish woman get her phone smacked out of her hand and then thrown into the bus by her head when she bent down to pick it up.

I also saw a young woman, maybe 20s try to get her boyfriend to not resist. She was also dragged into a truck by her hair. They took her boyfriend in a different direction, so I didn't see what happened to him.

Yeah, that's the one I have been watching. They've sent a bunch of the vans away and aren't grabbing as many people at the moment.

They had bouncy castles during the protest in Ottawa, not quite the same scenes in Russia.

JFC....the questions about sanctions vs military might. If you go bomb Russia now, guess what none of us would exist anymore to care.

Biden basically saying Germany and Italy don’t want to boot Russia from SWIFT because it would hurt their economies. None of the sanctions seem to impact Russian oil or diamonds. There are still Russian banks left unsanctioned.

Yeah, no wonder he wasn’t worried about sanctions.

If American, Canadian and UK oil reserves could make up the difference for them it would already be done. The remaining sanctions will make the money that Germany and Italy still has to pay more and more useless to Russia.

I was honestly surprised that Germany shut off the pipeline. I had hope it meant they were closer to cutting them off.

SWIFT could still happen, but by the time they get to it it might not matter.

I’m fine paying more for gas. Or rationing. Fuck already done it once this winter lol.

Like, small sacrifice to make to make this prick suffer. Doing the bare minimum makes the likelihood of being faced with a Baltic Republic invoking Article 5 and putting NATO troops into a hot zone very realistic. I don’t understand the hesitancy knowing the possibilities.

I don't need to go to an office to work, and if I did in a few weeks I can ride my bike. I could conceivably go another month before another fill up.

I also think there is a legitimate worry that if they are cut off from the banking system that they will attack the system itself. They take that out, it's a lot of pain for the whole world.

And then it becomes a question of a) proving Russia did it and b) does that constitute an act of (world) war?

Funny they just asked Eric Swalwell why Biden dodged the SWIFT question. His response was dodging it also and went on these were the harshest sanctions ever to a country since WWII and that certain US Republicans needed to support the cause vs rooting for Putin.

Sadly I think that lack of perceived power is hurting the ability of other countries to get onboard or as Eric dodged the question stating that.

Totally this type of scenario opens it up for others to attack the system which is a very plausible possibility.

The US has had consistent oil embargoes on some of the world's largest producers since 1979 lol these people are so weak.

Funny you say that but all it takes is one event and the perception changes.

Amazing for some perception becomes reality, but there are a few that doesn't affect them.

Side note I really hope all Russian Oligarchs kids in US colleges are heading back to Russia.
Also, all Russian own assets in the US hopefully will pay off the US deficit when the US government seizes those.

wondering about all of the soccer teams owned by Russian oligarchs.

there was (rightfully so) a real push to get assets outside of Russia a while back.
So much real estate in London is Russian owned as well.
