I'm no economic expert by any means, but mass layoffs and people spending way less money as a result when 70% of the US economy is driven by consumer spending doesn't seem like a good thing to me.

You see that shit here in Canada too and it makes me crazy. Always blathering on about deficits and federal debt.

I'm not a trained economist either but it seems to me that having large numbers of citizens/consumers go into debt (often crippling) makes for a much more bleak economic outlook than the government accruing some debt. Ideally, of course, neither happens but sometimes you have to choose one or the other. Seems Trump is choosing neither.

didn't feel he was sincere and trustworthy but I didn't press much past that.

Trump is going to ride this american pope like nothing we have ever seen before and his cult is going to gain more power from it even though it has nothing to do with America. they will turn it into something they can use even more.

I see there are a lot of criticisms of him around not being a harder critic of the drug war in the Philippines or child abuse by clergy there ... but (sadly) hey what potential pope doesnt have that taint on his record ?
