Laws should require federal elected officials to (1) completely divest from business interests and (2) move all stock/bond investments into market index funds to avoid these obvious ethical concerns that officials from both parties regularly engage in. It would be pretty easy to track/enforce and it's not an imposition if you truly want to serve the public.
