See, that's how much money they are saving by not paying for whores and OAD players

Isn’t this a pay cut from what they were paying pitino? This just means they’re buying more hookers and blow for Mack.

I'm one that thinks guys like the three you mentioned are above leaving their current jobs just for the money. They are still well paid and prefer their current situation as better than being a bottom dweller of a P5 just for the money.

I also read somewhere that Brad Stevens had said exactly what happened with him. If he were to be lured by money it would be to the pros instead of a difficult P5 job.

Jay Wright probably isn't a good example, because with the $ he makes from other sources plus his salary, it's probably pretty close to say what Louisville could offer.

Leaving Xavier for Louisville is pretty close to a no-brainer. They're in the hole, but they're still Louisville.

Now staying at Xavier for 1.5 million versus going to say ... Texas for 3 million. That's a different question. At Xavier, you don't have to rebuild. You just have to keep the train running.

I think Texas is a bad example. With its resources Texas is a sleeping giant in every sport.

Personally, I think Xavier is a better job than Texas.

I think these coaches are willing to eat a significant amount if they like the job.

Plus, there's a lot of hidden money.

Roy Williams' salary at UNC is 2 million. In reality, he makes probably closer to 4 times that.

Gonzaga rumored moving to the Mountain West, which is a little better conference.

Seattle should be added instead. Larger market and like other MWC schools WAC connection.

btw, Jeff Capel has been Duke's ace recruiter the past few years. He was the primary recruiter for Bagley, Giles, Ingram, Duval, Carter, Winslow and Trent. Also the lead recruiter for c/0 2018 guys Williamson and Barrett.

Jon Scheyer?

What has Scheyer done to earn that job? Serious question. What is Scheyer's role within Duke? What does he excel at as a coach? Player development? Capel and Wojo were superior recruiters.

I think a lot of the smaller...and for sure the private...schools should do things like this. Gary Patterson's "non salary" income is much better than his compensation. Something like a significant percentage of a partnership in a company of a TCU alum.

If the money were totally equal, you could be correct...depending on the individual preference. Small private school vs huge state school, Cincinnati vs Austin, Big East vs Big 12, etc.

I thought carawell was a nice sleeper in that awful 2000 draft.

He was 3 and D before 3 and D was a thing.

But he sucked. And he even went to the spurs!

Carrawell is a pretty forgotten Duke player. He was an ACC POY and 1st team all-american as a senior, and he's rarely talked about when you bring up great Duke players from the past.
