getting amendola is looking like a waste though

Edelman is not nearly as dependable. He only catches about 66% of passes thrown his way, Welker catches about 75%. And Welker has had 11 less targets. And Welker has 4x the TDs than Edelman.

No. No one was a Welker replacement because we had no desire to have that role exist in our offense.

Why would the Pats not want to keep a role that has been so huge for them in the past? It's not like Amendola brings an entirely different set of skills.

Because a guy outside who isn't a threat down the field and doesn't have spectacular hands isn't good enough.

Are they using Amendola differently than Welker? Does he really bring any more dynamic than Welker?

Amendola just seems like a less-tough version of Welker.

He's playing in the slot, and isn't the number one guy or playing outside. Wes was not willing to be relegated to that role by rookies.

If Wes was on this team, neither rookie would be getting the reps they need. Also Amendola has better hands. When your safety valve has average hands something is wrong. Admittedly we haven't had a consistent safety valve so far, but the ugliness so far is needed for this team to be where it needs to be down the stretch.
