“Russell (Okung) knows zone blocking from working with Marshawn (Lynch) in Seattle. Donald (Stephenson) had the same stuff in Kansas City. And I know what Ty (Sambrailo), Max (Garcia) and Matt (Paradis) are going to give me when I look inside. We hear it all the time that the offense isn’t good enough. We can’t worry about outside noise. All we can do is prove people wrong.~C.J. Anderson.

CJ seems particularly motivated this year - in great shape, but I really liked this quote. They are the most disrespected unit on the Broncos team - they have group motivation coming out of the gazoo - the interior of the line is young enough they still have upside in the offense and the two tackles - have experience and success (some) with the zone blocking concepts. On a championship team - there must be very strong peer pressure (unspoken) for the laggard units to get themselves up to snuff. If the team culture is healthy and selfless - it works for motivation.

Hopefully he's changed his ways after 2 straight years of being lazy before the season leading to a terrible 1st half but motivated in the 2nd half. If he's gonna show up for a full season then I'm happy we re-signed him.

He actually showed up to practice I think exactly the weight he was in the Super Bowl. And it does sound like the coaches have been very impressed so far with his conditioning. The last couple of years that has not been the case as they have been very outspoken about him being out of shape.

As for the offense yeah I do think they are going to be motivated. They have been ripped apart left and right all last year and all this off season. I think especially the OL and Running Game will be just as key to our success as that of how our QB performs. IF we can get a top-10 rushing attack to go with this defense then watch out NFL world. Going to be a long season for them.

Exactly - the right call in so many ways.

What was a form of luck as year was the amount of snaps the Defense had to take during the course of games and during the course of the season. Kubiak and Phillips kept them fresh to be sure, but nothing makes the defense feel better than to watch a long offensive drive. The other offense falls out of rhythm and the Broncos defense is rested.

Well have some time before I have to really get busy this morning so decided to watch some Russell Okung games. Thankfully I have NFL Game Pass so I can watch any game over the last 5 or so years and watch the condensed versions so it doesn't take me too long to get through a game. Man am I excited to watch this guy work. If he can stay healthy he honestly could be the steal of FA this year. When healthy he has shown great footwork to match up with some of the top pass rushers in the NFL one-on-one. I just watched a game with him against Quinn of the Rams and he seemed to be the only one that was able to contain him for the most part. He does a great job of keeping his feet underneath him and just not panicking when a player tries to fake outside and cut back in.

I will say he needs to work some on his run blocking. He can get a bit high and can struggle some when asked to get to the 2nd level and find a guy in open space. Just doesn't really break down well on some occasions. Still his superior athleticism combined with Kubiak and his staff working with the guy is something I am excited to see what happens.
