Is anyone else intrigued by the idea of signing CJ? I know he hasn't been very effective over the last few years, but I don't think the Titans line has been very effective and he tends to see a lot more people in the box than he would with the Broncos. I think if you can pair his speed with facing 6 man boxes it could generate a lot of big plays. With the RB market drying up a bit I think we could sign him to a 1 yr deal for under $4 million.

I don`t think so Mike. Denver needs another back either fa/or draft but from what I`ve been hearing/rumors, their looking or wanting a bigger back that can get those tough yds and goal line situations. ( Morenos job last yr) Johnson isn`t that type of back and I don`t think Denver will even consider looking his way TTYT.

He is definitely an intriguing option but I just don't see the fit. The Broncos have hammered into their backs that the one of the top tasks they have is pass blocking for Peyton. Johnson has yet to show that he cares one bit about taking a guy head on like that. I'm just worried he would get Peyton killed as teams would know when he was in it is either a run or he is out running a route.

I also have a tough time seeing him take a deal for 1 year $4 million. The man is all about the money and some team is going to offer him possibly double that.

Ummmm...... No. I think we have higher priorities than signing Chris Johnson. We have Montee Ball, with some depth behind him already. Best place for us to look for a RB (Should the Club decide they need one) is via draft.

I think it would be a long shot and there are some concerns with his priorities and if he would be a team player. The though of a back that can break big runs facing 6 man boxes could be a very good combination. With what the RB market has been I would be very surprised if CJ gets more than $4 million per year though.

Looks like he's not coming here anyway.....

Broncos not in the mix for Chris Johnson
by Larry Hartstein |CBSSports.com

Free agent running back Chris Johnson would be a great change of pace to Montee Ball, but the Broncos don't have the money to meet Johnson's contract demands, reports the Denver Post. In addition, the paper can't see Johnson accepting a No. 2 role in
the backfield.

Yeah those were some of the concerns that I had with him. When the Titans brought in I think Shonne Green if I remember right Chris Johnson voiced that he was not happy at all so the idea of either being 2nd on the depth chart or at least splitting carries would not have been of any interest. Plus then throw in the Broncos would want to pay him like a back up running back where he wants starter money plus a little extra. Heck if RunDMC for the Raiders can get $4 million a year Chris Johnson should double that.

DMC's contract is actually worth $1.75 million with unlikely to be attained incentives that could bring it to $4 million. The initial reports of his deal were a bit misleading.

Denver needs a "pounder". CJ doesn`t fit that mold. And as far as Walker saying we got good depth at rb behind Ball...sorry, I beg to differ. Anderson hasn`t proved anything yet and Hilman is not the guy you want carrying the rock if Ball were to go down by any means. Sorry Boh, I just see a bigger need at addressing rb than you. I hope Denver has a plan.

Chris Johnson could be very successful in denver but I agree its not going to happen for reasons already stated. I do worry about our depth at rb though...Thinking back to the year we lost something like 6 rbs and im not confident if montee goes down

Nobody knows how good or bad our running backs are right now. No group on our team has more uncertainty about it than that of our running backs. Ball showed signs last year of being a very good back and showed in college he can be the bell cow when needed. Anderson had some nice runs when called upon but again very limited footage to judge how he would do if Ball went down. Hillman had a very bad year but then again we just saw a year where Moreno bounced back from a disappointing start to his career to have then a career year. At this point it has to be In Elway We Trust as he and the coaching staff know better than anybody how good or bad our running backs should be. The fact that they let Moreno walk for so cheap and haven't pursued any other running back makes me think they seem content with what we have or see a late round running back that they have their eye on that they think can come in day one and compete. I guess we shall find out here in I think less than a month what the coaching staff thinks of those 3 guys.

Also Manimal Sighting I don't think any team could be prepared to lose 6 RB's in a year. No team has that kind of depth. At best teams have 3 RB's that could do decent at starting. Doesn't mean we can't improve our depth just saying with the Cap the way it is in the NFL teams are lucky to have starting caliber players at every position on the starting team let alone then in the back up positions.

This is very true... on top of the cap no team is going to take up 6 roster spots for rbs. I have been listening to Fox and Elway spend all offseason talking about wanting to run the ball with authority so let's hope we can pull a Shanahan and make a late round back work out. Besides with the cap space we have left any more moves they make will be draft or preseason when injuries start being an issue.

Just because they "haven't proved anything" doesn't mean they can't be considered decent depth. Hilman is a change-of-pace back, and should stay that way (and keep a handle on the ball). Anderson really didn't see the field much, but there's a reason they kept him, and chose not to resign Moreno. It means they have some confidence in Anderson's ability to back up Ball. I'm not saying RB should be ignored, but by the same token, I don't see a dire need to address the position in FA or the first few draft rounds. If Denver's drafting, and they come across a RB who's BPA, great! But I don't see the need to call it a position of focus.

Running with authority starts with the O-line. (And maybe Elway and Fox are looking to add a FB who can also catch passes.) Even the best, all-pro RB can struggle when the line doesn't block worth a darn. By the same token, a good O-line can turn Joe Schmo into a 1000-yd back.

Considering the latest reports, our O-line is far from settled. We need to get that taken care of before even entertaining any ideas of bringing in any more RB's.

Broncos' offensive line far from settled

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

Only two of the Broncos' offensive line positions are set, reports the Denver Post. Ryan Clady will start at left tackle, Louis Vasquez at right guard.
Manny Ramirez and Will Montgomery will compete at center, though Denver also could draft a rookie to start, the paper said. Orlando Franklin or Chris Clark will start at right tackle, and left guard will be manned by Ramirez or Franklin.

I wasnt very high on Montee Ball just because Wisconsin RB's havent faired well in the NFL but Ball showed some good things last year so I say let him be the man and draft a RB late. Lets see if Hillman and Anderson can step it up as well. It would have been great to have gotten Moreno to come back but that ship has sailed.
