I'm happy with the deal.... I'm tired of waiting on Stubbs - Glad to see him go. I've heard good things about Gregorius, but this is a team that's built for the next three years. If you can fill a major need, you have to do it. Good deal.

I'm totally ok with this deal. Plug in Choo and give a shot to win for a season until Hamilton gets called up

Indians are sending $3.5 million along with Choo.

Jocketty says it's basically a one year deal with Choo until Hamilton is ready.

I like the thinking -- Hopefully Hamilton continues to progress in the minor leagues.

I suppose the only thing that concerns me is defense. I've read where Choo should be fine, especially given our small park. But, over the past few seasons we have been succeeding due to our attention to defense. I hope this isn't a case where we stop valuing what got us there in the first place.

You got to be shitting me. Choo was one of the most consistent players on Cle. He is young, good fielder, hit for power and average. We lost a lot w/ that one. Dissappointing, we lose a great player every yr for the past 15 years. And most if them are still in prime!

Choo has a lifetime OBP of over .380 --- finally, a real leadoff hitter.

What I heard was that Choo had already told the Indians he wasn't going to resign with them, so I guess they decided to get what they could for him now rather than waiting and getting nothing after the 2013 season. Sucks, but that's the facts of life in baseball these days. He's basically a one year fix for the Reds, who think they are primed to challenge now. They are hoping by 2014 Billy Hamilton will be ready.

Choo also struck out 150 times last year and twice he has struck out over 150 times in the last 3 years. His range is also gone down hill each of the last two years and he hasn't played a game CF in 3 years.

I like the deal, but I have a feeling our OF defense with Choo in CF and Ludwick in LF may suffer a little bit with range and getting to balls in the gap.

I wish we could extend Choo, and stick him in LF after this year. Trade Ludwick next season for a piece of need, insert Hamilton into CF to lead off and put Choo batting second.

2014 Ideal Lineup in my opinion:

CF Hamilton (S)
LF Choo (L)
1B Votto (L)
2B Phillips (R)
RF Bruce (L)
3B Frasier (R)
C Hanigan (R)
SS Cozart (R)

Have a guy with a the ability to steal 100 bases in front of Votto making pitchers nervous as hell when trying to pitch to Votto, and Choo batting right in front of Votto who will see more pitches due to Votto being Votto. Choo also has a career .380 OBP so the likelihood of guys being on in front of Votto is very damn good for tons of RBI chances.

Give Choo a 4 year extension worth $36-$40 million. Trade Ludwick next offseason.

Our offense and defense is then set for the next 4 years at the minimum with young guys under team control for 4 years in Cozart, Frasier, Mesoraco.

Choo with an extension for 4.

Votto here forever.

Bruce here another 4 years.

Phillips here another 4 years.

Hamilton under team control for 6 years.

Hopefully we can resign Ryan Hanigan for several more years, as I like him. Not much power, but good eye, good average, great OBP, and really good defender who is excellent with the pitching staff.

FACT: Jay Bruce is the worst defensive outfielder on the team.

Can't be argued. You'll try, but it's the gods honest truth. Bruce was a complete train wreck in RF in 2012.

The Reds also get Jason Donald to replace Cairo's utility role.

Choo is a beast. He'll hit 25 hr's and steal 25 bases. He'll get on base at a near .400 clip. Votto has a legit shot at 150 RBI if healthy.

Love the trade and the overall approach by the Reds. Nice to have one professional franchise in town that clearly cares about winning and its fanbase. Question: Is Rolen still under that bloated contract this year?

Rolen's a free agent. I expect after no one signs him he'll retire.

Its this approach the Reds are NOW taking that will force Mike Brown to spend...Fans will jump ship and support UC Bball and the Reds only if Mike doesn't lock up Atkins, Green, Dunlap, Dalton( Jury still out on him in my opinion those drive killing picks are reminding me of Palmer). MIke better be ready to spend money in 2013.

What will force MB to spend is the mandate that he has to. Even with that in place he might be better off absorbing whatever penalty there might be for not spending up to the cap. Also, with the NFL being the monster that it is coupled with revenue sharing and a cherry stadium deal it doesnt matter if fans jump ship. That prick will still make money hand over fist.

You may be right. You don't want to spend to 99% cap only to have the following year you have to resign your biggest stars in Dalton, Green and Atkins. There would be zero money available to do that with how cap friendly their first contract is to the team.

Delusion. Do you think MB gives a fuck about the Reds or UC basketball? It's the NFL. People will still spend money.

yea, we still get fans here for Pittsburgh and Cleveland, that's 2 sell outs there.

If we play Indy or Dallas, those will sell out, or if we play another good team that everyone likes, like Green Bay, that will sell out.

Mike Brown will survive.
