Dolphins are NOT matching 5-year, $38 million offer sheet that Buffalo gave TE Charles Clay, per sources. Bills have a new TE.

How on Earth do they plan to pay Dareus? The contract on the surface seems absurd for Clay. He's not a top 5 TE.

They don't need to pay Dareus until next season. He's under contract thru 2015.

Clay could wind up being an important piece of the puzzle for the Bills, considering their QB situation.

Just curious. Maybe I am expecting a bigger contract for Dareus than most. You'd probably know more details than I would.

Well they should still have over $30 million in cap space going into next season with the 5th most contracts already locked up. So not like they are going to have a ton of players to all of a sudden have to dish out big money. They don't have a high priced quarterback so it makes it a bit easier to pay a guy like Dareus that kind of money.

Clay could be great for you but I'd be worried about the injuries he seemed to fighting something all last season. For that kind of cash you better hope that he's not always injured...Cameron was a safer and cheaper bet for the Fins so I'm glad that they passed they need a WR anyway two TE's for that dough would have been a big time luxury.

I suppose I am just expecting a mega contract for Dareus with inflation added to eek up towards the mega contracts of McCoy and Suh more recently.

Maybe I am overvaluing guys like Chris Hogan, Robert Woods, and Stephon Gilmore. I guess we will see. I am pretty convinced Dareus will get a mega-contract himself.

It doesn't matter to me. If he sucks - he screws the Bills
If he is great - he screws the dolphins
How's that 2 tight end offense coming along?????

He's a good tight end but what's the good of having a good tight end if he has no one (all due respect to Cassel, Manuel) to throw him the ball.

Little expensive for Clay but you've gotta overpay a bit to play for a team fighting to secure a playoff spot and Clay is still a top 10 TE in the league. He's a great run blocker (pass could use some work) which is desperately needed for the T-6th worst running team in the league 2014. He is also one of the better tight ends in the league at low drop % and ability to force defenders on miss tackles.

Clay is only 26, so paying this kind of money is not terrible.

Will have to see structuring before I can give a grade, but at first glance I'd give it a B. Little heavy on the money/guaranteed but it's $4 guaranteed and $8M overall contract less than Thomas. I'd put Clay on equal terms as Thomas considering the weapons/QB in Miami are nowhere near the caliber of Denver - not to mention the defense in the AFC East is superior to the AFC West.

Interesting to see all the AFC East teams do their best to catch up to the Pats. Unfortunately without a decent QB I don't see that happening. So in my eyes only the Dolphins have a pray of winning the division and I can't convince myself that the Dolphins can actually make that happen.

At that price it's not worth it although Sims may take the next step. They'll probably spend some of that money on WR and draft another. Would have been interesting to see two TE's of that caliber but too much to risk.
