Zack Kassian, the Buffalo Sabres' top prospect who was charged with punching a man during a bar fight earlier this year, had his assault charge dropped Wednesday.
A court in Windsor, Ont., dismissed the case against Kassian after negotiating a deal, the Windsor Star reported. In exchange for dropping the charges, Kassian reportedly had to perform 25 hours of community service, make a $500 donation to charity and pay for the dental work of the victim, who suffered a chipped tooth during the early morning altercation May 30.
The 19-year-old Kassian was not at the hearing, which the paper said lasted just one minute.
The Sabres' first-round pick in the 2009 NHL entry draft had a solid training camp before returning to his junior team in Windsor. The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder has five goals and 17 points in eight games with the Spitfires.
