I don't know how anyone can suggest we get rid of Murray. After this year's rendition of 'Pussies on Ice', he is at least the consistent physical presence. I have no problem in relegating him to fewer minutes or teaming him with someone that would compliment his abilities (rather than the other way around), but until we get someone who can match his intensity & physicality, get off his case. :boxing:

I know what you're saying but the guy gets beat repeatedly due to his lack of footspeed and is a liability on the ice when he's not being physical. Perhaps the fact that the PK sucked so badly took away from his wanting to be aggressive. Slotting him in as a 3rd pairing dman is the right thing to do, but then you'd have a third pairing dman being paid $2.5, which is a bit much. He isn't one of the big problems, imo, just one that is easy to solve (trade).

This is the same problem with me wanting to trade Clowe. Him and Murray are pretty much the only intimidating guys on the team. They just have shortcomings that hinder the team play when they aren't being physical. Murray is slow and causes his partner to have to cover for him. Clowe is one dimensional. Both are entering the final years of their contracts so keeping them around and reaping the benefits of a pending UFA can help the team too. Trading them for valuable assets is the right thing to do imo.

It's like putting one of the moving boxes together. I see trading him as the final tuck to seal the box. Before you do that, you have fold some flaps, secure the sides & bottom. If all we do is trade him, we have made the wrong move.

interesting results so far...

three way tie for Get rid of the Coach, Get rid of the GM or All of the above (quite extreme, my guess those folks are just really angry right now).

Sweet! A poll..!! I voted for the fuck it, blow the shit up option. I haven't liked a majority of Doug Wilsons decisions going back 3 years now and he's only getting worse, not better. I liked TMac but his inability to resolve the PK issue and not get this team going has shown me enough, that I think a change is needed. Had to vote on trading players, as this is probably the single biggest issue the team has... which leads back to D Wilson.

I'm ready for a rebuild. Willing to go 3-4 years of non playoffs to try and build it back up. This group ain't gettin it done. That I guarantee so, why delay the re-build process?

Agreed. To me, Murray is one of the small problems. He can still be of use if his role was diminished.

I voted for getting rid of the coaching staff because it's the simplest, most impactful thing Doug can do imo. Those core players and their NMCs make it difficult to trade and if they can be traded, player's with NMCs rarely net equal value in return. I guess it depends on whether Doug thinks it's time to rebuild or to continue trying to win with this group. My guess is he still thinks this group can get it done.

The bad thing about getting a new coach is that it may send a message to the players that they aren't the problem.

Haha... rep for the last poll choice.

I picked "get rid of DW".

Ultimately, he should be held accountable/responsible for the shittastic roster.

I have my beefs with McLellan too (a lot more recently than before), but I'm willing to give him another year.

How can you bag wilson but not Todd?? Wilson's trades effected the future with the prospects & picks, not who was on the ice. Player wise he gave up McGinn, Seto & Heatly, and everyone here seemed to like what they got back for seto & heatly. So, the talent was there. That falls on Todds hands and he has absolutely no idea how to coach a team or make a strategy that works for the team. IMO he should go before Wilson....

I voted fire the GM. Wilson set out to build a winner around Joe Thornton. It didn't work. I don't fully blame Wilson for that, but it didn't work and in the process he gutted the Sharks' farm system. IMO it's time for someone with new ideas on how to build a team to come in. Worry about the coaching staff and player personnel later. Wilson isn't a horrible GM and if he had been hired by say Anaheim or Detroit where he could have build around good leaders like Niedermayer and Lidstrom, then he might have been able to lead a team to a Stanley Cup. But his vision for the Sharks failed to bring a Stanely Cup to San Jose. No matter how hard he tries to push that square peg into a round hole, it's just not gonna fit.

I voted for firing the coach, but maybe really all they need are better assistants. I think they have a systematic problem here. How many times have we seen 40+ shots and 1 goal? Can't be a coincidence. The penalty kill, brutal. I wish an option for coach and players. Maybe better assistant coaches, and move garbage players and those who lack speed who can't keep up. That means Murray, Clowe, and probably Pavelski too. Maybe Niemi too. Pavelski and Niemi are maybe your own bargaining chips here because you can't trade the NTC. I think Boyle will be moved though even I heard here he has an NTC. So here are who I think will be gone:

Shaw, Woodcroft, maybe TMac
Clowe or Pavs. One won't be back.
Murray, White, Vandemeer gone. Demers maybe. Boyle traded.
Niemi traded maybe.
Now the stench: Mitchell, Moore, Gagliardi, Winchester, Fairy-O.

Keepers: Vlassic, Burns, Braun, Couture, Thornton, Havlat, Desi, Wingels, Marleau (that damn contract), Zues.

I should make another poll for this but might as well stick it here...

What will your first reaction be after you find out that Dougie has signed Mitchell to a brand new shiny contract in the offseason?

Be honest...

(LOL)

Yeah, I agree with you. The coaching staff is going to take the heat, and it's justified. They just don't seem to be able to adapt their style of play.
