Probably a territory that Alabama had due to an opponent they beat earlier in the year, and then you beat them. That's my best guess. I just don't understand how FSU can have zero territory but both UF and Michigan do

Because Michigan lost to OSU the last game of the regular season. OSU would have all their territory. Therefore when you beat them, they had nothing to give.

This is the 2016 final.

So looking at the final 2016 map, how does Michigan have territory but not FSU? Does it not include bowl games?

If so, how does Florida have territory but not FSU?

Michigan was undefeated up to losing to Iowa. Iowa had nothing going into that point coming off losses.
Michigan owned their small area due to many schools in the Michigan area, UCF, Colorado and Colorado States areas, got nothing from Penn State gained Wisconsin who had area from LSU, Nevada who lost it to Notre Dame who lost to Michigan State. gained nothing from rutgers, illinois, Michigan State nor Maryland. so Iowa gained all of that from Michigan. Iowa gained nothing in their last 2 games. then lost it all to Florida.

I didn't either, but I can't figure out how we got territory in Arizona without it.

Clemson has area in so cal and in the region of New Mexico more so than it does in Arizona.
UCLA was owned by Texas A&M form week 1. A&M lost to Alabama who did not lose until losing to Clemson.
New Mexico lost its land to New Mexico State. who lost to Kentucky, who won until the lost to Alabama. and again Alabama lost to Clemson. this is how Clemson finished with land in those areas.

Why does Michigan have such a wide swath of Colorado? Yeah, They beat AF, but that should only give them El Paso County (Colorado Springs) The vast majority is probably about 70-30 between CU and CSU. So U Dub should have almost the whole state.

It's not about the percentage of fans but the closest FBS school to that county.
