Their tickets are ridiculous. For example currently on stubhub the December 28th game vs the crappy pistons tickets are starting at $170 minimum. Oklahoma city tickets vs the same pistons starting price on stubhub is $39

They're cashing out on the whole Lebron, Love move.

Correct me if i'm wrong but I'm sure the Heat never did this in 2010

Definitely not and I'm not even sure heat tickets were so pricey to see trash teams. Turnup would know more though.

I expect Cavs road games to be pricey but to charge fans ridiculous money to see them play at home against bad games is ridiculous

Pistons are winning it all this year. This is a matchup of the two best in the NBA. A bargain for entertainment at twice the price they're charging.

It's a way they try to cut out the scalpers. With the lottery, it makes it difficult for a scalper group to buy up a bunch of individual tickets and sell them on the secondary market.

The Heat also took advantage of the situation. If anyone remembers, they laid off all of their salespeople the week after the Big 3 signed.

The treated current ( pre Big 3) season ticket holders fair and did not raise prices.
What they did do was skyrocket the price of unsold non premium seats, and took almost all premium seats out of inventory and gave them to a broker right near the arena ( White Glove International) to sell on a single game by game basis.

Next, they created tiers of games and called them 'hot', ' hotter', etc based price on opponent /day of week.

They also created a system, like the lotto, where you paid a fee to be put on a priority list to be first to buy tickets if/when they became available.

I live a few hours from where the sixers live. I saw sixers tickets against the cavs and they were outrages too.

That's expected. Don't expect cheap prices if Cleveland, OKC, Clippers, Lakers, or Knicks are playing.

I just expected Cavs home games for nosebleeds against bad teams to be cheaper than 170 bucks

The Heat certainly did raise ticket prices. When you're about to go over the luxury, you have to make up the difference somewhere.

Cleveland Cavaliers institute lottery system for single-game ticket sales - ESPN

So now fans wanting to buy single game tickets have to join a lottery to see if they're allowed seats.

They basically went from begging people to fill seats to saying "Fuck you, we decide if you get to spend hundreds of dollars to watch your team play"

The seating capacity for basketball at Quicken Loans Arena is 20,562

In 2011 (year LeBron left) Cavs avg. 20,112 fans which means 97.8% full capacity....3rd in the league

2012....15,926 which is 77.5% and 19th

2013....16,192 which is 78.7% and 22nd

2014....17,329 which is 84.3% and 16th

It's quite clear they were not "begging fans" to fill the seats.

Was going to go to the cavs-bulls preseason game here in columbus and then saw the ticket prices. Not going to pay that amount for decent seats for a fucking preseason game. $175-$400 for middle bowl. $1000 for lowest section behind a basket. The only ones i would have considered getting that are still left is section 206 and 221 middle bowl semi middle of the court. 221 is $280+ and 206 is $390+. Fuck that shit.

More for a pre-season game than league pass!?!?!? I'll sit in a more comfortable seat, drink better beer, not have to drive home AND get to see more games.
It would be great if everyone protested the prices and LeBron played to an empty arena for even just one game.

Yeah. that was ticketmaster but even vivid and stubhub weren't much better. I could get some of the nose-bleed type tickets for ~40-80 but i would rather stay at home than pay that for shit seats at a pre-season game. The driving isnt a big deal becuz i live like under 5 minutes from that arena but i thought that was pretty ridiculous. IDK how much starters play or if they play at all in those preseason games, i usually only watch football preseason but even if they played most of the game idk that i would do that.

Going from 20,112 in 2011 to 15,926 in 2012 is a drop of over 4000 seats PER GAME in less than a year.

If you had any business sense you'd know that is a significant loss. I can guarantee you Dan Gilbert would have been begging.

It's less money sure......but Gilbert wasn't to the point as in "being in the red" to where he needs to beg people to come to games.

Besides he's has other business ventures, also. As of Sept. 2013 the dudes net worth is documented at 3.9 billion. He wasn't losing any sleep that season by attracting 4,000 less fans and certainly had no plans to beg people to come to the games.

It doesn't matter how many billions you have in the bank. When you're losing $190,000 per home game compared to the season before, something had to change.

In order to gain those fans back, a promotion of some sort had to take place - hence the begging.

I think you going overboard on this, the Cavs were complete garbage last year yet they still attendance wasn't that bad, better then a lot of teams.
