He's not worth anything trade-wise.

Yeah. And they're insulting one of their franchises best players at the end of his career for no reason.

at $7MM for this year? For a guy who will play like a #3WR? Why don't they try to trade Albert Haynesworth and his old deal while they're at it? Danny will allow it.

I agree... Nobody will be interested in a player with 12+ seasons under his belt. Especially with the FA & draft pools being as deep as they are. What a stupid move!

I'd be interested in him if he was a free agent at a reasonable number. But I'm not giving up a pick for him at that number.

If you're going to get rid of him, at least offer the courtesy of letting him go on his own terms.

It might be worth giving say a 6th or 7th pick for him, but anything else is over the top.

The Panthers said they removed his jersey because they have to correct the name on the back. Smith wants it to read Smith Sr. because he has a son on the way that will be named Steve Smith Jr.

Right now, Smith is the only WR the Panthers have under contract and would be a top #2 for most teams. If he was to be traded it would clear that money off the books for Carolina, which is currently less than $7 mil under the cap. Whoever took him would probably want to renegotiate his deal.

Let's not get carried away. Something like a case of Gatorade, no make that Powerade, is a little more reasonable.

And let's not forget that the Titans are trying to get something for Chris Johnson ($8M next season). :pound:

Some are reporting the trade is not all about money. The Panthers are cap challenged but cutting Smith would only save $2 mil. Trading would be the only way to get him completely off the books. The reported reason Carolina is looking to trade him it they are looking at getting a new #1 WR and are afraid Smith won't accept a diminished role and will cause some locker room problems. This all may just be a ploy to get Smith to renegotiate to a 1 year deal for around $5 mil. I don't see him having a whole lot of trade value. The Panthers are thinking about their long term future, which is Cam, Kuechly, Hardy, and a few others. At 35 years old (when the season starts) Smith is not in those plans 4 or 5 years down the road.

I wouldn't want him.I've always respected his play (5'9" and wins the triple crown of receiving in 2005, pretty ridiculous) but he's way too much of a loose cannon for my taste.
