The Patriots sent DE Chandler Jones to the Cards for G Jonathon Cooper and a second round draft pick.
Good trade for both teams IMO.

Cooper was a beast at north carolina in college. Now the Pats have Chris Long and I'm not sure what he has left in the tank.
Good chance Cooper totally busts. I think the late 2nd rounder and not having to pay Jones is why the Pats did it.Cooper had struggled with the Cards and was about to be moved to Center. I wonder if the Pats will continue that, or keep him at G?

Think of it this way:Has Bellicheck ever traded for a guy that ended up a bust? They signed Chad Johnson wasn't good late in his career, but usually BB gets the most out of his younger guys.
...and the Cards sign Evan Mathis for 2 years to replace Cooper at OG.
Actually it's one year/6 million dollar deal.
Think of it this way:
Bellichick is unloading a player who has off the field concerns and is letting someone else pay the hundreds of millions of dollars. In return, he gets a late 2nd rounder and maybe the chance to revitalize someone's career.
Thats how I see it.
The Arizona Cardinals roster is setting up to be a juggernaut next year pending on whether Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald can still bring it for 16 games.
Chris Long hasn't been good since 2013, though, has had injury issues and is changing scheme. I'm not sure I'd call it smart but for every misstep Bellichick has, he hits a HR somewhere so I'm not going to question it too muchThe way it is..
BB doesn't have to pay a big contract to his DE Jones, so he moves him for some talent on the Oline and a 2nd rounder. Then signs Long. That's just being smart - get the most out of someone before he moves on to FA + he gets an Olineman with upside and a 2nd rounder. So watch BB draft a DE with that 2nd + Chris Long + Cooper?
Like is said, Cooper was pretty good in college so I expect BB to get the most of out of him cuz that's what he usually does.

I read it. I didn't agree with it. BB is trading a top 10 pass rusher entering his prime for a backup Guard and a late 2nd round pick and saves room for a locker room guy. They just traded for Shea McClelin who hasnt really proven much. You didn't read my post. Chris Long + a 2nd rounder - BB drafts a DE with that 2nd and you are deep at that position ALL while moving a guy that would have broke the bank or would have walked anyway. AND you get a young Olineman as well. Maybe he uses a 3rd rounder on a DE? Point is you got 3 players for 1 that would have walked.
That would be smart. Maybe Long isn't the old Long, but he does bring leadership and experience to a younger/raw group of Dlineman. He set the standard for the Rams Dline I believe.

This whole thing reeks of 'I'm Bill Bellichick and I'm smarter than everyone else' and maybe he has earned that. Its why I'm not lol'ing at the Patriots but the Patriots make moves all of the time that don't pan out so I'm not fully sure this really makes the Pats better at all unless they had inside info on Jones being a total tool.
