Good thread Tyler! I am going to sticky it, and we can use it as our offseason cap thread.

I think that our in house priorities are going to be Carlson and deciding what to do with Semin and Green.

I would like to see us get something done with Carlson early. Get him locked down for a 4 or 5 year deal. I would pa up to 3.5 million per year for 5 years.

I think that we need to slow play Green a bit and see what the market is with him (like we did with Varlamov) though I would like to see him resigned, but not for more than 4 per. We control him for the tome being. Let's see what comes of it. If he gets an absurd offer sheet, take the draft pick.

Semin will settle itself, IMO, as I really think that he will only play in Washington or the KHL. I would not pay more than what Backstrom is making. He had a great playoff, but we have to think about the cap and the whole of the team. A 1 or 2 year deal will be best as it seems that he plays best with urgency

If Dale Hunter stays on as the coach, I think that Beagle is an essential part to his system and would look to see if we can get a 2-3 year deal with him in the similar price range as Hendricks.

As far as UFAs, a lot will depend on whether or not Hunter is the coach. If he is, I would expect that Knuble is gone. If not, I could see him signing a 1 year deal to be part of one last run.

Wideman is most likely going to make bank and be gone. Vokoun is gone.

Poti will likely not play again this year so we SHOULD be able to use his cap space.

I think Carlson will probably get a similar deal to what Alzner got, maybe a half a million more or so, but I think both of their long term deals will happen in their next deal.

Green has to get at least $5 million qualifying offer or he becomes a UFA, so it all depends. I'd be okay giving him a little more money for a short term deal, but that seems less likely. I am worried about Green because of his health, but we can't really afford to not resign him as I don't see a replacement for him.

Semin is just too complicated to predict.

I'd love to get Beagle back, but I could also see someone over paying for him this offseason. He broke his foot and needed surgery in game 5.

I'd want MP85 back, but we'll see. Halpern says he plans on playing next year, so he's a possible option. Knuble retires I think. I don't really care if Aucoin gets brought back or not, just don't play him on the PP damnit! Sabourin is probably back as well with the Bears.

Wideman and Vokoun are gone.

Now we'll see who is going to coach this team..

Do you think Knuble could still do a good job as a 4th line guy for us, more on the defense side? Id love him back, just dont know what he has left in the tank.

I think he has enough in the tank, and much more than Bruce or Dale gave him credit for. I think it's just a matter of is he willing to either come back for another year or if he is, is he willing to come back in a new city if he feels he'd get the same raw deal he did this year.

Hopefully he would feel fine back in Philly, and I would take him a 2mil than Jagr at 3.3

you guys really think you can wrap up carlson for around 3, 3.5?

i suppose he is restricted.. but you gotta think anything long term is gunna cost around 5.. he's a bonafide top pair dman.. have i lost touch with the caps in my year in cali?

(serious questions, not being an ass)

also, i'm really jealous of the cap structure the caps have going.. they have a lot of bargain deals and really none that stand out too badly.. rumors say the cap is gunna go up 6 mil.. that'd give the caps 25 mil in space.. they could do damn near anything they wanted (parise and suter???)

Carlson had a really porous regular season. He made up for it with a really good playoffs, but he really was pretty damn bad at times. Like really really bad. There was a 5 game stretch when he had about 10+ TOs per game, at least half in his own zone.

But again, I still think he gets a deal along the same lines of Alzner for 2 years and both of their next deals being the bigger long term deal.

hmm.. i see.. the mediocre regular season the caps had could be just what they needed to build the team for the future though.. couple guys having down seasons, get them a little cheaper than you would have.. if they all bounce back to what has been their norm, caps are gunna be a force

So, moves so far:

Ribeiro at $5.0M, UFA at the end of the year
Crabb Signed at $0.95M for 1 year (UFA)
Hillman signed at $0.65M for 1 year (UFA)
Beagle re-signed at $0.9M a year for 3 years (UFA)
MP85 re-signed at $1.05M a year for 2 years (RFA)

Left to resign:
Green (RFA)
Carlson (RFA)

Supposedly not coming back:
Semin (I'd like to resign him at this point, but it'd be for too much)
Knuble (Please, anywhere but pittsburgh)
Halpern (meh, I don't know news on him, but he said he wasn't coming back a while ago)
Aucoin (wants 1 way deal or is going to Europe)
