Wonder if they got him just to sit him as payback for a few years ago....

TSN Trade tracker lists the deal as Neiuvirth and Klesla for Halak and a 3rd.

Solid deal by Murray, if they can sign Rusty. And they just got a few extra months to shower him with cap floor money.

Yep, they'll have tons of money to spend. Klesla is currently at a reasonable $2.975M and he'll undoubtedly want a raise, but he can probably be had for a reasonable rate.

And with Neuvirth still under contract for another year, that's good. I don't think he or Enroth is a true number 1 in the NHL, but with where the team is right now, I've got no issue spending less than $4M for two goaltenders who can share the workload and bridge the gap until a true #1 is ready in the system.

Klesla will probably get a moderate raise (Maybe 3.5 - 4) and has Captain potential. Extra time to negotiate with him is a plus. He can be a steady hand in the midst of a rebuild.

Yeah, they're running a bit short on guys who can wear the C or the A with both Ott and Vanek moving this year. Ehrhoff and Tallinder are wearing the As right now (no replacement for Ott announced yet).

Given the rumo(u)rs around Ehrhoff the last couple days, I wouldn't be surprised if he moves in the off-season. Who do you go to then? It's a pitiful looking group. I expect Klesla has a letter of some sort next year if not before this season is out.

This was a salary dump by the Caps. They will play Halak some but got Neuvy and Erat off the books for next season. Amnesty Laich and you have a lot if cash to spend on pieces. Essentially, the rest of the season is a tryout for Grabovski and Penner and the Caps will likely be able to extend them if it is a good fit.

Halak is a solid NHL goalie that for some reason doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in his teammates. I would take Halak over probably 10 starters in the league.
