Well it did help that the Texans played in an extremely weak division. But, like the Ravens & Giants, Houston succeeded because they had a great pass rush. Connor Barwin & Brooks Reed both showed very good pass rush ability (as did Mario before he got injured of course). Antonio Smith is also playing like one of the best 3-4 DL in the NFL (so is JJ WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT of course).

exactly, makes sense to me that Houston wouldn't tag him. Save the $ improve elsewhere.

Maybe find a medical staff to keep their QBs durable?
