Nah, atleast for the majority of Eastern Conference fans
IT WASN'T REAL!!!! IT'S A TRAP!!!
its a good poll for this board? if every NHL fan on this board voted for a team we could get an idea. me I hate Chicago (no offense Q) the most at this time but before there were different teams I hateed more in teh past. so it varies on a regular basis I guess it always does.
If you loathe a team, how would you enjoy watching them win the Cup?
I still don't understand the hate for this team...
Let me start by saying that the Canucks have a very talented team. You don't fluke your way to a President's trophy as well as game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals. However, one of the biggest gripes that some fans and media have about this team (and some of it in my opinion is legitimate) is that certain Canucks players do dive/embellish in the hopes of drawing penalties.
Due to the fact that the NHL is a "copycat" league, the fear is that other teams will employ similar techniques and then we'll be faced with a game more resembling soccer than hockey. It will be interesting to see if Shanny and company look at more severe penalties for diving/embellishing over the summer (as is being rumored).
I wouldn't be opposed to a 2 min penalty plus 10 minute misconduct if a ref believes a player is diving/embellishing. It would certainly help to curb the head snaps and falling down to the ice when barely touched by an opponent.
I think that the general feeling is that the diving/embellishing is a lot more widespread this year, among all teams and players. This is adding fuel to the fire of Canucks hate.
Also Roberto Luongo looks like a sleazy employee at a quick-lube.
pretty important to implement video review if you go this route.I wouldn't be opposed to a 2 min penalty plus 10 minute misconduct if a ref believes a player is diving/embellishing. It would certainly help to curb the head snaps and falling down to the ice when barely touched by an opponent.
absolutely. I have a hard time cheering for my enemies.General question - Are you as a fan more likely to root for the team in the opposite conference of the team you cheer for?
I feel like that is generally the case b/c your rivals are numerous in your own conference, but rare (if present at all) in the opposite conference.
I'll just say that I liked the '82 and '94 versions of the Canucks that made the SCF a heck of a lot more than this team and leave it at that...

good article:
On Stanley Cup Final coverage and the problem of bias | Vancouver Sun Sports Blogs
As the big media has descended on Vancouver, fans have been subjected to writing from individuals who rarely cover this team, don’t particularly like this team, and would rather this team didn’t win. These writers have attacked the Canucks incessantly, misquoted players, called them names, and gleefully jumped on every opportunity to paint the team in a negative light. Then, they’ve had the nerve to dishonestly claim their one-sided coverage is fair and balanced, and insulted anyone that’s tried to say otherwise.
--------------
Consider, for example, the writing about the Sedins, whose manhood has been questioned for their lack of production in the Final. Anyone with an ounce of sense can see that their best series came against a team that didn’t have a dedicated shutdown pairing (San Jose), and they’ve had a tougher time against teams with Norris-Calibre defensemen that aggressively focus on shutting them down (Chicago, Nashville, Boston).
However, instead of telling this story, we’ve been subjected to a “limp-wristed Euros” narrative that smacks of embarrassing prejudice.
When was the last time someone suggested that Sidney Crosby or Jonathan Toews was less of a man for their relative lack of production in their respective Finals? In 2008, Crosby went minus-3 with a goal and two assists. In 2009, despite going minus-5 with no goals and three assists, Toews won the Conn Smythe. I’m sure their Canadian citizenship had nothing to do with their generous coverage.
