I have to disagree with this being a good game for Canada. Being tested by Norway is not the way to start out the Olympics if you're the favorites for the gold. Not saying they should be ashamed of themselves, but this won't cut it against higher level competition.

Agreed

Exactly why this was a good thing. They know that effort isn't good enough and will make them get stronger, much like that game with the Swiss in 2010 did. Much rather be tested early than have a game with a team that doesn't show up like the US did.

I think it was a good showing by Canada. In the first, they had some trouble with the openness of the Norway system and the bigger ice. There were a few times when Canadian players stepped up without realizing there was an additional 10 or so feet of open space behind them. They came out trying to run north and south and Norway had more room to get around them. Babcock adjusted it to almost a right side lock and they filled in that space. Price kept them in it and they adjusted and took it over. Solid showing.

All of team Norway is used to playing on that size ice, so they had an advantage. This is not going to be a problem against Czech, Swe, Russia etc, because they are mostly comprised of guys used to NHL sized ice. Neither the offense or defense is going to instinctively look for the gap behind the guy in their face. Because the game they typically play, it isn't there.

There are also dingleberries criticizing Price for bumbling the play behind the net on Norway's goal. He was very solid and adjusted to the sightlines well.

Also didn't realize how well Pietrangelo can really skate. I was impressed. In the Hitch system he doesn't get a chance to open the taps, I guess.

I have to disagree, would much rather blow out a quality team like Slovakia than get tested by a no name team like Norway, but we'll see how this works itself out.

He'll get his chance tomorrow jstew (lol).

/Also his chance to establish himself as the No. 1 goalie. Austria gave the Finns a good game earlier today.

It was his mistake. It looked like a bored goalie mistake to me, not that that excuses it.

Couldn't care less about the prelim games. Feeling out process as far as I'm concerned. In salt lake city and Vancouver, Canada had a pretty underwhelming round robin but for better as things progressed. Hoping for the same here. I'm not convinced it would be a bad thing to come 2nd in the pool and play an extra game, either.

I think it's somewhat important to have a good record in the preliminary. Gives you some additional rest and an easier pathway to the medal round. I think the only good thing about struggling in the preliminaries is that it gives you an opportunity to evaluate your weaknesses and make adjustments.

Sid always puts pressure on himself tho. Although from our perspective there was a lot more pressure on Sid in Vancouver than in Sochi, Sid probably puts just as much pressure on himself in these games as he did in the previous games. It's just his personality it seems.
