I get that Tallon gave him the contract & knows Campbell well. What I don't understand is Florida needs offense desparately. Why acquire a defenseman who adds 4 million to the payroll while giving up a forward.

I'm sorry, but Florida is my early pick to finish dead last next year.

Because Olesz isn't a forward.
He's useless trash who has only accomplished the label of NHL bust in his career.

Considering that the Panthers have guys like Kulikov and hopefully Gudbranson, a guy like Campbell who's a great PMD could be great for their development.

Either way, the Panthers did need an experienced defenseman, especially one who can quarterback the powerplay.

It's a great deal for the Panthers considering that they still have a ways to go before reaching the cap floor.

I think adding Campbell may have something to do with the fact that yesterday the Panthers were approximately $30 mill under the cap floor. So basically Florida still has $26 mill to sign some forwards and I'm relatively sure they have some young offensive talent in their system already, so why not get someone to pass them the puck?

I don't understand the Cap much so if someone would help me that would be great, if the Hawks bought out Olesz how much would they be saving?

The cap is at 64.3 and the floor at 48.3 million. So basically, the Panthers have a butt ton of signing to do just to get to the floor. I think with this deal the Hawks saved a decent amount, but Olesz is a 3.4 mil hit, so it's just around 4 million saved. Got some people to sign though. 9 F signed, 5 D, and 2 G (although your back up...well, I've never heard of him...Salak?).

EDIT: Yeah, you just said by buying out...okay, well...that's different.
