It's not his fault he is overpaid, but the guy is a stud. Can be a liability in his own zone, but his transition game and effectiveness on the PP can't be disputed. He led the league in +/- for most of the year. If true it is a nice pickup for Florida (assuming they didn't mortgage their future).

LW Rostislav Olesz going to Chicago from Florida.

No idea who he is but apparently makes about $3M/year.

might as well drop this in here, too.

The signed D-men for #FLAPanthers -- Kulikov, Weaver, Ellerby and Garrison -- earn a combined $3.6875m, barely half of Campbell's cap hit.

I get that Tallon gave him the contract & knows Campbell well. What I don't understand is Florida needs offense desparately. Why acquire a defenseman who adds 4 million to the payroll while giving up a forward.

I'm sorry, but Florida is my early pick to finish dead last next year.

To make it to the cap floor or something, like someone else said? /shrug

EDIT: Oh, sorry, I see what you meant... why not add offense instead (and why give it away in a trade for D). Nevermind.

There are better ways to spend in order to reach the cap floor.

All this did was allow Chicago to give Patrick Sharp an extension.

You are an Islander fan. Are you sorry? Really?

Good move for Chicago, and as someone else said, this allows them to keep Sharp.

.

Campbell is a defenseman only by the strictest of definitions.
I would really say his acquisition was 'adding defense'.
Campbell's career high in points is 52, Olesz has reached 30 points only once.

and yeah, they needed to add a silly contract (or two) to get to the cap floor.

this is a win win for florida, as long as campbell doesnt start putting up 15-20 points a year for the duration of the contract.
