Nice to see everyone out there getting it going for the season and not having any major issues to discuss in terms of injury. I think all of us will be nervously watching the reports every day after all of the bad news last year.

How can you not be amped when you finally get to see some players out on that new field?

New stadium looks so amazing. Reported that Price was instant money with Williams and ASJ during passing today. Love it.

Okay seriously I can not wait for this thing to get under way. Loved Sarks press conference the other day saying the team is pissed about last season finish, that's a great sign cause we haven't had that chip on the shoulder from past teams in awhile.....

Wed was first day of practice with pads. Sark said everyone's intensity increased as soon as they got out on the field with them.

RB Deonate Cooper had his most productive day. Prayers his knee can last this season.

Cyler Miles having solid days. Right now, looking like he's distancing himself from Jeff Lindquist to be the #2.

Lots of redzone drills.

D was all over the Husky O. Sean Parker, Greg Ducre, and Jamaal Kearse all making big D stops.

Freshman TB Lavon Coleman having good practices and getting praised from coach Nansen.

DiAndre Campbell had a huge catch over Greg Ducre.

WR Jyadon Mickens in non-contact jersey. Don't know why.

Freshman WR John Ross worked with the #1 offense in the slot.

Shane Brostek hurt his foot recently, but was now out of the boot he had been wearing.

LB Travis Feeney says he's good to go after offseason shoulder surgery.

Huskies will practice at Seahawks facility tomorrow to get some time on grass.

PAC12 network will be doing a training camp series filmed at each site. UW special premieres Aug 18th, 7pm pst

something we can agree on. It is SEASON time!!! Very Excited!

Question about your stadium, that picture you posted Are they hoping to build up on that section of smaller bleachers there you see directly in your picture? Seems like they left room to grow if they wanted to.

Great to hear if true. Sark said all the "ACL" guys. Tanigawa, Jamora, Callier, and Cooper are "back to normal"

That's huge for our depth at OL, DL, and RBs if true and they can contribute in 2013. :hope:

The capacity of the stadium is around 69k as it stands. The area you see at the back of the picture has the offices in it and right now has some outdoor patio seating and whatnot on the top of it. I wouldn't be shocked to see them add an upper deck around the closed end, but I don't see it any time soon. They need to return to selling out what they have first.

In other pictures you will see a bleacher section at the other end, the so-called 'open end' of the stadium and I doubt they ever build that up as it would block the view of the lake. Pretty sure it will always be a horse shoe facility because of that view.

All freshman have been deemed eligible by NCAA clearinghouse. Good to go. :suds:

Sarkisian issued a challenge to his veterans Friday morning.

Sensing the unaccustomed freshmen may be getting fatigued after four consecutive days of practice and the mental fatigue of playbook installation, the Huskies’ coach demanded his older players bring energy to the afternoon practice — the first this preseason in full pads.

Deontae Cooper continues to work with the #1 and #2s. No problems.

TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins drew some of the loudest “woos!” when he picked up the ball and plowed right through a freshman linebacker. It was, without a doubt, the most decisive win for an offensive player in that drill.

During practice, senior linebacker Princeton Fuimaono blitzed in and thwacked Dwayne Washington so hard inside at the line of scrimmage that the tailback’s helmet flew back into the backfield.

WR John Ross continues to impress and worked with #1 today.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Cyler Miles further separated himself from the pack of backups behind Keith Price by lofting a perfect ball that hit freshman John Ross in stride 55 yards downfield on a post pattern. Ross, who had beaten his defender by three yards, coasted into the end zone for a 65-yard touchdown.

Ross has been a standout this first week. He is getting time with Price and the first-team offense in three-wide-receiver sets, along with Kasen Williams, Jaydon Mickens and sometimes DiAndre Campbell.

Travis Coons boomed a pair of 50-plus-yard punts while standing at the back line of his own end zone during special-teams drills. Coons remains in a battle with freshman Cameron Van Winkle for field-goal duties. Both made their kicks from 28, 33, 38 and 43 yards Friday in team drills.

RB Jesse Callier did not practice today, spending part of the afternoon on a stationary bike, but Sarksian said that was more precaution as Callier also continues his comeback from a torn ACL. OL Shane Brostek (foot) did not practice, and OL Erik Kohler did not practice.

Former Husky receiver Jermaine Kearse watched practice from the sideline, less than 24 hours after catching a touchdown pass for the Seahawks in their exhibition victory in San Diego.

Tues will be the first official full scrimmages.

Ducre, Peters, Parker and Shamburger; that’s the clear starting four so far in a secondary that has lost Desmond Trufant and Justin Glenn from last season.

Greg Ducre and Will Shamburger converged like center and right fielders under the ball, thrown high over the middle 45 yards on a post route downfield.

The heavy congestion the Huskies’ two defensive backs had created left Kasen Williams almost no room to move. Only because Williams has unique physical gifts at 6-feet-2 and 212 pounds with a state high-school-champion leaping pedigree did the wide receiver force himself through Ducre and Shamburger to catch Keith Price’s deep pass Monday night.

As Williams tumbled to the Husky Stadium turf with the ball, Ducre and Shamburger looked at each other seemingly bewildered.

As great as the catch was, the fact half of UW’s new defensive backfield were on the play – and that it took an extraordinary effort from one of the two Huskies who could have possibly made that catch (along with 6-6 Austin Seferian-Jenkins) to make it – shows one of Washington’s most intriguing position battles is taking early shape.

Ducre made one start at cornerback last season and Shamburger made two at safety in 2012. But the guys who started in front of them are gone now – cornerback Desmond Trufant is a first-round draft choice trying to start for the Atlanta Falcons, and Justin Glenn is trying to catch on after a May stint with the Kansas City Chiefs.

They’ve left Ducre and Shamburger as the senior leaders in a secondary for 2013. Sean Parker, a senior who was a co-captain last season, is entrenched at the other safety next to Shamburger. And Marcus Peters, who started the final nine games of last season, has the edge so far at right cornerback opposite Ducre.

At least that was the read from what coach Steve Sarkisian saw and said of his current backups, after he rested the nicked-up Peters and had Cleveland Wallace at right cornerback Monday night for the second of two practices on day eight of UW’s preseason.

“We need to get Cleveland Wallace going even more,” Sarkisian said of the redshirt freshman. “We need to get (junior-college transfer) Travell Dixon going more. We are getting beat deep too much there.”

So that’s where what Sarkisian had called at the beginning of this month a “most intriguing” set of position battles clearly stands, entering the 10th of 24 preseason practices.

COONS BOOMS ‘EM

Travis Coons continued his impressive start to the preseason by making all five of his field-goal tries during special-teams scrimmaging Monday night. The senior who handled all kicking and punting duties for UW last season drilled his final attempt from 53 yards out.

The kickers will get a big stage during Tuesday’s full scrimmage, after which Sarkisian said the coaches will re-evaluate all personnel to confirm position fits — and, perhaps, misfits.

Tues. First official full contact scrimmage with pads. #1s against the #1s. #2s against the #2s.

Big news is of course the announcement that ASJ has fractured his pinkie finger and will require a surgical procedure. While he will be able to continue his conditioning, he will not be catching any footballs. Sark said they will know more about the timeframe of when he could be available to pay by this Saturday.

Deontae Cooper, whose had a great first week since coming back from multiple ACL surgeries continues to impress and had his first TD score since he first got injured, capped a well executed drive lead by Cyler Miles. Redshirt freshman lineman Michael Kneip provided the block that helped Cooper get into the endzone.

Later in the scrimmage, Cooper was alternating with Ryan McDaniel and Dwayne Washington behind Bishop Sankey with the first-team offense.

Fifth-year senior Will Shamburger, who with Keith Price are the only members of Sarkisian’s first UW recruiting class in 2009 still on the team, looked like the sure tackler a safety has to be in the back of the defense. He made three, impressive open-field tackles.

Former tight end Evan Hudson continues to impress coaches and teammates with how he is adapting to defensive tackle. He played end at times on passing downs. He and fellow defensive tackle Danny Shelton stopped the first-team offense on three plays from the 1 midway through the scrimmage.

A day after it seemed Travis Coons was surging ahead of freshman Cameron Van Winkle for placekicking duties, the senior missed his first two extra-point attempts. As Sarkisian said later, “We haven’t missed two extra points in our four years here.” Van Winkle made his PATs, plus 34-yard and booming, 39-yard field goals. The freshman had a second 34-yard try blocked; he’s had multiple kicks blocked in the last few days.

Sarkisian said he hopes that after another full scrimmage Saturday he can declare a front-runner for the kicking jobs.

Hau'oli Jamora has officially changed his last name to Kikaha to "honor his mother's ide of the family".

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, Sarkisian’s mentor at USC, was spotted on campus. The NFL team had the day off, and Carroll was checking out the new UW football facilities.

The team moves into its new operations center, locker room, training room and weight room this weekend, and expect to be operating out of there by Monday, leaving behind their spaces at the bottom of Alaska Airlines Arena and in the Graves Annex building.

Available to PAY? This isn't Oregon! :laugh3: I know that was just a typo, but couldn't resist.

Sark was asked about what he values more in his kicking game: Distance or consistency and he jumped right in and said consistency which of course gives a nod to Van Winkle. Wouldn't be surprised to see both get FG opportunities over the season with Coons put in on 40+ kicks. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Coons take over at punter if Durkee sucks as bad as he did last year. Coons was a more than suitable replacement for punting, but doing both wore him down and having to split his practice time for both disciplines wasn't optimal either. It's just nice to know Coons gives them so many different options if there are struggles in any phase of kicking/punting. If I was sark I'd put coons in for kicking in the first game and put VW out for the next two to see how the freshman responds under a real game situation.

ASJ is hurt, but I doubt we will hear from Sark about how long he will be out. He has a history of not giving full details on injuries and if I was him I wouldn't tell the media if he is going to play that first game either. In fact we may never know if ASJ sits out that game whether or not it was his finger or a team suspension for his DUI. Even though he is having surgery on the finger he could still be available for the first game. A game cast for the pinkie finger would be small and they have a few weeks to get him used to making catches with it on. I'm not trying to overly diminish the situation, but this is a far better injury to have vs the ACL's the team has been plagued with in recent years. Always faster to recover from upper body injuries vs anything in the lower half. Things could be far far worse.

With Ross coming on so strong in camp and Jaydon showing great improvement I see a WR group that will be very solid. Now the question is do they have 6 guys who can play substantial time because running the hurry up no huddle causes you to sub out WR's more frequently with all the extra running they do.

I'd also expect to see more passing to the RB's if ASJ is out. A couple of them look like they have the hands to make those catches and the speed to create mismatches over the middle given how far the backs will be spread out on defenses with all those studs at WR.

Just over two weeks to go man and I'm amped up.

 at the pay thing. We aren't the Nike U. No doubt.

But we have got word this afternoon that ASJ did have the medical procedure done on his fractured finger over the past 24 hours. But no timeline on when he will be available again. The story was mentioned as one of the lead stories on CFL last night. They discussed any finger injury like this can be bad for any receiver. Your pinky fingers can actually take a lot of the initial impact when your catching a football as they are trained to hold up their hands a certain way. For TEs, it's a lot of (spread your fingers, touch thumbs, and angle your hands forward). Pinkies can get blasted all the time.

Practice reportedly went much better today.

Great news that DE Cory Littleton was not seriously injured when he limped off the field yesterday. Didn't practice, but was still seen jogging around the field.

Sark says it's all good with the Shelton incident. Had a talk with everyone after practice yesterday. He says is an issue he wants to have. That they are playing at a hard level right now and doesn't have to tell them to play harder.

“I love that this is what I have to do, that I have to hold on to the leash of these dogs and hold onto ‘em. Because these guys when you let go, they’re going to run and they’re going to play hard and they’re going to be physical, which is a good problem to have. So they understand. We talk about it daily and I thought the guys came out today and it was probably our best practice of staying off the ground, and we were still playing fast and flying around and playing with really good energy.”

Love it.

OT Erik Kohler still in a boot.

WR Ross was given some break today as Sark said he's pushed him really hard this week for a freshman.

DE Joe Mathis is working more with the #1 D.

TE Michael Hartvigson and Joshua Perkins are getting all the #1 TE reps.

Starting next week, it becomes smoke and mirrors time. The press will not be able to attend any practices which have already been closed from the public this year.
