A 41 year old singles hitter that's probably no longer on steroids. Thanks but no thanks.

Do you sell out every night?

TEX % of sellouts down considerably in 2013 from 2012 ... but still out drawing BOS by 5k per game even though BOS is as is typical well over 90% sellouts. Just goes to show if your park is small enough your % of sellouts goes up.

Am sure BOS would love Manny back so he can wander around inside the Green Monster scoreboard like he used to.

No, but Manny has proven to be a HOF who's way out of his prime, so why not give him a chance? I kinda just love Manny so I'm bias. If it was any other washed up DH I'd say no, but it's Manny. I just wanna see him play again tbh.

If he was in Boston - would you want him up?

The team is giving itself a "shot in the arm", having won six of seven, including two of three in Oakland. Also think that getting Garza, along with Darvish and Ogando back from the DL, were "shots in the arm".

We have a good chance to make up some ground in the standings this week. We are not desperate.

Minus that whole "Ogando coming back from the DL" part....

Laughable if you think Ramirez will ever sniff the HOF. He is five seasons since his last AS season ... you remember ... that was the season BOS booted him out ... sending him to LAD. If he is "way out of his prime" ... why should TEX "give him a chance?" TEX already tried out another aging 1-dimensional DH this year ... fool me once shame on you ... fool me twice shame on me.

Maybe he ought to return to Taiwan ... he really tore up that AA competition. Not sure it is even clear he's served his last MLB suspension. More likely he and ARod, McGwire and a growing number of others will be charter members of the Hall of Shame.

Most likely TEX signed him to a minor league deal to prevent someone else signing him and catching lightning in a bottle. They are perfectly happy having him DH down at AAA to moderately fill those ABs. He's gone again at the end of August when he will not have another franchise to jump to and to qualify for post season via an injury to an eligible player.

Want to see him play again? Head to Austin. Or watch him on MiLB TV.

The guy can't hit in AAA, he's done. Of course he's not getting the call.
JD has already confirmed, no Manny.

Would/should be for life this time, 1st infraction in 2009 while with the Dodgers, 2nd in 2011 while with the Rays, after which he retired, he came back with the A's and was notified by MLB that he only had to serve 50 games (not sure how that worked, maybe b/c he took time off due to retirement?), 3rd infraction would/should result in a lifetime ban

I'd be ok with him getting a lifetime ban

I really don't get signing the guy to a minor league deal in the 1st place. All he could ever help the team with, even maybe, would be DH

If the guy would still rake, do we not need a dh? It was a no risk move. No biggie.

Signing him to a minor league deal and holding onto him through August means nobody else has him either. So his contract is effectively insurance to keep him from playing for someone else.

Could TEX use a 1-dimensional DH to replace Berkman? Maybe. But I think TEX would prefer carrying the extra position player who is fully capable of starting every night. Combining the UIF and extra outfielder spots into two legit everyday players opens up more opportunity to DH and rest the regulars.

I originally thought that adding Manny might not be too bad an idea but the LAA game last night opened my eyes about how the Rangers plan to play the balance of this season and maybe next season too. Manny on base equals no running and that is not how they currently want to play. The Rangers intend to emphasize pitching and speed. It will be interesting to see how that plays out as the season progresses.

Sure will make for some interesting games. Speed doesn't slump.
